DURING OPERATION 1. Stand offside to power on: stand to the side of the grinder during start-up, do not stand in front of a grinder until after it maintains full speed for one (1) minute. 2. Use locking pliers: when working with smaller workpieces, always use locking pliers or another holding device to grip the work piece. Ensure pliers or devices do not contact wheel. 3. Support workpiece: grasp the workpiece firmly and support it on the tool rest during grinding. Do not allow workpiece to lift off rest while grinding. 4. Grind against the cutting edge: always grind into the wheel. Keep the workpiece positioned so it cannot become jammed between wheel and tool rest. 5. Ease through: bring work into contact with rotating wheel slowly and smoothly. Never force the workpiece into the wheel 6. Move workpiece: move workpiece back and forth along edge of grinding wheel. 7. Keep hands clear: move hands and fingers well away from grinding area. Never reach around, under or near the wheel while it is running. TIPS Power off to adjust: power off and wait for a full wheel stop before making any adjustments. Never adjust guards or tool rests while the wheel is moving. Stay present: stay focused, avoid distractions, and never leave the grinder running unattended. Never grind on the side of the wheel: do not adjust, bypass or remove self-adjusting guard. Handle jams safely: if the workpiece binds or catches, turn off the grinder and wait for a complete stop before clearing the jam. Let go safely: if the workpiece slips or becomes unstable, release it safely, turn off the grinder and wait for a full stop before resetting. Manage heat build up: workpieces can become hot during grinding. Use water to cool the piece frequently and avoid touching freshly ground metal. Proper wheel: only use approved wheels for the machine, match arbor size, wheel diameter, and rpm for the grinder being used. Monitor wheel: monitor during use for any vibration, wobbling or unusual sounds. Stop the grinder immediately and report it. Never continue to use a vibrating wheel. POST OPERATION 1. Power down: turn off equipment and wait for all motion to stop. Never use a tool or workpiece to slow down or stop the grinding wheel. Do not leave it running unattended until all movement has ceased. 2. Allow cool down: grinding wheels, guards, and housing may be hot after use. Avoid touching wheels or tool rests until they have cooled. 3. Clean safely: use a stick or brush to clean dust and debris. Do not use hands or compressed air. Be aware swarf may be hot and should be collected accordingly. Only use equipment if you are trained and authorised to do so. Refer to user manual for additional information including set up, maintenance and instructions for use.
