Inspect grinding wheel for damage, cracks, or looseness before each use. Follow machine and tool maintenance recommendations from the manufacturer. When turning on the grinder, stand off to the side. Begin grinding only after the grinder has reached full speed. Sec. 25 (1)(a),(b),(c),(d) OHSA Sec. 25 (2)(a),(d) OHSA Sec. 25 (2)(h) OHSA Sec. 29 (a),(b),(c),(d),(g) Reg. 851 B The rotation of the grinding wheels are entanglement hazards. Long hair, loose clothing and / or jewelry can be drawn into the machine. Ensure grinding wheel guards, spark shields and tool rests are properly installed. Before use, remove loose clothing and jewelry, and tie back long hair to reduce the risk of entanglement. Do not wear gloves when operating. Never reach over, around or under the grinding wheel. Sec. 25 (1)(a),(b),(d) OHSA Sec. 25 (2)(a),(d),(h) OHSA Sec. 24, 26, 83 Reg. 851 Sec. 29(e), Reg. 851 C Contact with the grinding wheel can cause lacerations, abrasions, and burns Ensure grinding wheel guards, spark shields and tool rests are properly installed. Use locking pliers to hold small work pieces. Never reach over, around or under the grinding wheel. Sec. 25 (1)(a),(d) OHSA Sec. 25 (2)(a),(h) OHSA Sec. 24, 30 Reg. 851 Sec. 29(e), Reg 851 D The workpiece can kickback and be thrown towards the operator at high speed. Avoid removing too much material in one pass. Maintain smooth, even control over the workpiece, always maintain contact with tool rest. Ensure tool rest is set above center line and no more than 3mm from wheel. Sec. 25 (1)(a), (b),(d) OHSA Sec. 25 (2)(a)(h) OHSA Sec. 26, 30, 84 Reg. 851 E Debris from the grinding can be thrown towards the operator Ensure eye shield and spark shields are properly adjusted. Use protective eyewear and or face shield. Follow machine and tool maintenance recommendations from the manufacturer. Ensure adequate ventilation for work area. Wear a NIOSH approved dust mask or respirator when operating.
