The ice rinks make up one side, with an impressive lobby area in the middle and court sports on the other side, featuring eight outdoor pickleball courts, two large multisport gyms capable of hosting eight basketball courts or 16 volleyball courts and a fully equipped exercise and weight room. There are also 12 locker rooms, the Shark Shack concession area, Shark Club Bar and Grill and the Children's Health Andrews Institute for Orthopedics and Sports Medicine. Guests can also utilize multipurpose areas for community events, special teen-specific programming and other activities. "It's really a 'wow' building," said Morris. "The comments I receive when people walk into the building, they're just really excited." One unique feature of this tilt- wall facility is the fully visible-to-the- public ice plant system, which controls ice refrigeration and impacts HVAC and dehumidification functions in the facility, located in the center of the building on the second floor. For a variety of reasons, typically ice plants are hidden or in the back with the Zambonis, out of view. "We have ample seating and our viewing area is great," said Jack Cooper, StarCenter Properties' vice president of facility operations. "Having the ice plant in the center and in the viewing area lets people see it in action and also helps us cut down on a lot of piping and save on energy. We're multi-purposing and re-using heat and cooling that would otherwise be wasted."
