DURING OPERATION 1. Power the sander: ensure workpiece is not touching the sander. Start the machine and allow to reach full operating speed before sanding. 2. Secure workpiece: keep the workpiece firmly against the table with both hands to secure against tipping or slipping. Small workpieces may require the use of locking pliers to properly hold. Extra supports for larger workpieces may be required. 3. Keep hands clear: plan your work, keep hands and fingers clear of abrasive pad at all times. Pay particular attention when rounding edges or sanding irregular shaped pieces. 4. Sand light and steady: move the workpiece slowly horizontally back and forth against the abrasive using light pressure until sanding is complete. Avoid forcing the material firmly in one spot to avoid burning the workpiece and the abrasive. Note: sand only one (1) piece at a time. TIPS Remove adjusting keys and wrenches before operation. Power off to adjust: make all adjustments with the machine off. Stay present: concentrate on the job, avoid distractions, never leave the belt sander running unattended. Handle jams and gumming safely: turn off belt sander and wait for full stop, and unplug power before cleaning or clearing. Don't overreach: keep proper footing and balance at all times. Replace abrasive as needed: when paper or scorch marks appear on sanding belt replace the abrasive. POST OPERATION 1. Power down: turn off equipment and wait for motion to stop. Never leave it running unattended. Do not try to slow belt down forcefully with workpiece or scrap piece. Turn off any dust collection system. 2. Remove materials: once motion has stopped, remove workpiece and excess by-products. 3. Clean safely: use a vacuum, stick or brush to clean dust and debris. Do not use hands or compressed air. Only use equipment if you are trained and authorised to do so.
