PRE OPERATION
1. Prepare the workspace - clear the table except for the workpiece or stock
2. Inspect chuck - verify that the chuck threading type is correct and fully tightened, so it is securely fastened
to the machine. Confirm that the chuck rotation direction is appropriate for the workpiece being machined to
prevent loosening during operation
3. Inspect workpiece – inspect your material for bends or other defects
4. Secure the workpiece – apply lathe brake and tighten each chuck cam to secure workpiece using a chuck key
5. Remove the chuck key - ALWAYS verify the chuck key has been removed from chuck before starting the lathe
6. Position chuck guard – adjust chuck guard so that chuck is fully covered during operation, ensure adequate
clearance between the guard, chuck and workpiece prior to starting the lathe
7. Support long workpiece – position and use outboard spider, stock tubes, and/or tailstock for long workpieces
8. Adjust compound slide – adjust compound to the appropriate height and as close to workpiece as possible
