Blue & Gold Illustrated: America's Foremost Authority on Notre Dame Football

BLUEGOLDONLINE.COM OCT. 10, 2026 5 like Casper the Ghost. Where are they? We recruit high-level kids but maybe we should go into the portal to attract better talent. To my knowledge, ND has thrown for 833 yards and tight ends have caught 31 scrimmage yards worth of those passes. I respect the heck out of CJ Carr, a magnificent QB, and Coach Mike Den- brock; averaging 40 points per game is terrific. I am just a little confused why we don't use the tight end more. Go Irish! Rick (Duck) Santry '76 No doubt, Duck, tight ends have been central to Notre Dame's offensive iden- tity, so their limited receiving produc- tion stands out. However, receiving to- tals capture only part of the position's contribution, with run blocking another very important responsibility. The Purdue game did offer an encour- aging sign, though, with Cooper Flana- gan and James Flanigan combining for 3 catches for 38 yards and 1 touchdown. Perhaps, with a little patience, they will begin to play a bigger role in the passing game. AGAINST THE STREAM Doesn't NBC earn enough revenue televising Notre Dame football games, including one annually on Peacock. I certainly can afford Peacock's monthly rate, but I don't need or want Peacock for a month. I guess it is a way for NBC to gather subscriptions, but I look for- ward to watching the games as usual and free of charge, and I assume most ND fans and donors agree. It's surely a contractual matter between ND and NBC, but at the time and expense of fans and donors. Mike Hertling '67 We understand , Mike. Being able to afford another subscription doesn't mean fans want one, especially to watch a single game. Moving a game to Peacock adds an expense and inconvenience for viewers accustomed to watching Notre Dame on NBC. Streaming may serve the business interests of the network and university, but fans' preferences deserve consideration, too. Your objection is fair: Access and affordability matter, even to those who can comfortably pay. CHALLENGE ACCEPTED! Just wanted to write in after reading about Tim Buckley's collection: I have been a loyal subscriber since 1997, but I have collected Blue & Gold Illustrated back to the year of my birth, 1985. I am missing a few issues back in the early days, but have every single issue from 1989 onward. I even have the baseball "issues" they used to publish. On top of that I believe I have a full run of the "competition" in Irish Sports Report as well. Always neat to pull a random one out and drift back into Irish history! Ryan Rybarczyk To Tim Buckley, you dropped a chal- lenge and I accept. Don't know if will hold up but my Blue & Gold collection currently stands at 594, starting with the beginning of the 1995 season. Go Irish. Tony Klaber Lebanon, Ohio The challenge is on! Ryan , a collec- tion stretching back to 1985 — including those baseball editions — is impressive. Tony, 594 issues represents plenty of Irish history, too. Thanks to both of you for making Blue & Gold part of your lives for decades. Those old pages can bring a season rushing back. Tim, it looks like you've started something! 1. Publication Title 2.
