HURRICANE
OPPORTUNITY HAS A WAY OF KNOCKING
AT THE STRANGEST TIME.
One minute Brandon Bussi is a goalie looking for an opportunity to
achieve his NHL dreams and the next his arms are raised in triumph
after leading the Carolina Hurricanes to the 2026 Stanley Cup title.
The celebratory scene at the end of Game 6 marked the Hurricanes
second championship run and capped off an unlikely season for the
undrafted goaltender from Sound Beach, New York, who was claimed
off waivers two days before the start of the 2025-26 NHL season.
Less than two weeks later he was embarking on a record-setting start to
his NHL career. Over the course of his first 25 starts with the Hurricanes,
Bussi would win 21 of them, the most ever by an NHL goaltender.
