Cost and worth
A recent industry engagement
brought me the opportunity to
interact with a few individuals
who are in the marketing role or
having businesses that deal with
promotional activities pertaining to
the travel trade.
For one, there are some
who prefer to "travel further for
the bigger shows" so that they
can capture a bigger audience
while some are limiting their
marketing initiatives to touch on
a more localised markets. The
general feedback on turning down
an opportunity to tap on that
target market to promote one's
destination or products, hovers
over costing woes.
What are the parameters that
judge the cost of your trade event
versus worth and in the case of
intangibles, how do you count its
impact on your businesses?
Speaking of Sales and Marketing,
we also had a quick chat with the
charismatic Robert Cheng of The
Peninsula Hotels while he was
in town to touch base with the
media in Singapore. We also speak
with Yeoh Siew Hoon of Web-InTravel who tells us more about the
conference that's taking place during

Sleeping in a jumbo jet
STOCKHOLM – While we are
not encouraging any stowaway
attempts here at TravelWeekly,
trying to evade the unique existence
of such an accommodation option
is close to being at the brink of
ridicule.
Dramas aside, we think that this
airplane hotel redefines the whole
idea of an airport hotel, because
really, this property is the closest
you can get to an airport, or even a
runway.
We've heard of couch-surfing,
colonial boutique houses, cabin
pods and also capsule hotels, but
nothing thrills us more than the idea
of sleeping in a Boeing 747. It may
not be moving during the number
