At the Mass, 19 seminarians from eight different dioceses took one step closer to priestly ordination. The Mass was presided by Archbishop Samuel Aquila and was filled with seminary faculty, family and friends. The ministries of acolyte and lector are used as steps in the formation of men before they are ordained to the diaconate and eventually the priesthood. These ministries are a fruit of the Second Vatican Council and were officially added to seminary formation in 1972 by Pope Paul VI. LECTORS pose for a photo. Front row, from left: Msgr. The Roman Pontifical for the Institution of Lectors and Acolytes states that acolytes are entrusted with the distribution of holy Communion during Mass and to the homebound as well as with publically exposing the Blessed Sacrament for adoration. The 14 newly installed lectors may now proclaim Scripture, except for the Gospel, in liturgical celebrations. They are also to instruct the faithful in their reception of the sacraments. The installation Mass also included a profession of faith by two Denver priests who will be teaching in the seminary, Father Jason Wallace and Father Angel Perez-Lopez.
