HIP HOP / RNB 27 7 guestlist.net Issue 55 / 2013 album of the month: The Piece Maker 3: Return of the 50 MC's Guestlist recommends: Zeroh You've probably noticed the meteoric rise of that weird, tripped-out instrumental hip hop sound, right? Complex beats and that prominent bass means it must be impossible to rap over, right? Tony Touch brings back hip hop in its purest form - be sure to check out his album. The Piece Maker 3: Return of the 50 MCs by Tony Touch features hard-hitting production from legends such as DJ Premier (Gangstarr), Beatnuts, Lil' Fame (M.O.P.), Statik Selektah, Just Blaze, Erick Sermon (EPMD) and co-production from the RZA (Wu Tang Clan). On top of the stellar, head-nodding production, Tony Touch enlists some of hip hop's finest lyricists to give this album a 90s feel. This compilation of MCs will have you revelling in hip hop's golden era and will leave you longing for more. Event preview: Wiz Khalifa @ Brixton Academy Zeroh has been inextricably linked with LA's 'beat scene' since around 2011, making a name for himself by skillfully rapping over beats that weren't meant to be rapped over, and even producing some of his own. It's this knowledge of production that gives Zeroh his edge, or perhaps his confidence to MC over these tracks that most MCs wouldn't touch. His baritone voice sits nicely with the instrumentation and his surprisingly agile, deadpan delivery will please fans of Quasimoto and DOOM, but he is by no means derivative – Zeroh possesses style as unique as the music he chooses to rap over, and needs to be heard to be appreciated. After listening to a few of his tunes I guarantee that you'll come away with a list of new found favourite producers and emcees as long as your arm, and they'll all be linked in some way; guest spots, features and favours seem to be the fabric holding this little scene together. If you're into producers like Shlohmo and D33J then you're guar- anteed to love Zeroh, so check him out. We recommend starting with Bred: A Dedication, his newest release. It honestly doesn't hurt to trawl around his SoundCloud either; there's heaps of free stuff on there and it's a much more interactive way of discovering his music and affiliates - enjoy! It didn't take long until the entire room became intoxicated by his 'Taylor Gang' antics which made it an epic night for fans to remember. Once again, Wiz is back for another performance, this time at London's Brixton Academy with a capacity of 5000 die hard Wiz fans, its intimate, and its archaic, it's proscenium arch will enhance the atmosphere and create a visual spectacle. As if Wiz wasn't enough! Tickets are on sale now for £22.50 including booking fee available from the venue website so grab your tickets quick Do NOT miss out on another highly anticipated night.
