October 18th Nicole Holofcener's fifth feature arrives with a sun-dappled sheen and spunky dialogue, betraying the director's background in carefree television comedies Sex and the City and Parks and Recreation. And yet the unexpected death of James Gandolfini this summer still lingers over an otherwise joyous picture, even if his performance as cuddly divorcee Albert was unchartered territory for the former Sopranos star. In this affable romantic comedy, Gandolfini deftly shakes off his 'tough guy' persona, playing Albert as a gentle, almost passive creature, one hopelessly infatuated with witty if neurotic masseuse Eva (Seinfield's Julia Louise-Dreyfus). The two are introduced at the same garden party in which Eva meets Marianne, a fun, earthy poet with whom she has an instant rapport. Having uncovered both a potential new beau and gal pal, Eva is elated; her and Albert develop a promising chemistry, while she and Marianne gossip and bitch to one another during and in between massage sessions. All is harmonious, until the penny finally drops: that oafish ex-husband that Marianne can't stop talking about? It could only be Albert. Of course Eva keeps this bombshell to herself. She attempts to keep these two strands separate, but is inevitably fascinated by her friend's uncensored opinions on the man she herself is beginning to fall for. Soon every problem Marianne once had with Albert begins to vex Eva, too. Over an exquisitely awkward dinner party, she casually derides his eating habits. On the drive home, Albert tellingly asks: "Why do I feel like I just spent the evening with my ex-wife?" COMING SOON Holofcener's script is a wonderfully dry affair, expertly unpacking both the insecurities and newfound confidence that can come with middle age and exposing them to the soft and renewing LA sunshine. Although a relative stranger to the silver screen in recent years, TV stalwart Louise-Dreyfus is utterly charming in a unusually rewarding role for a veteran comedy actress (at fifty-two, she was in fact older than the leading man. How often do you see that?). Enough Said is a refreshingly balanced study in love, divorce and second chances – and that really can't be said enough. THE HUNGER GAMES: CATCHING FIRE LEE DANIELS' THE BUTLER November 21st November 15th MORE @ GUESTLIST.NET Early word is that this study of resident White House butler Cecil Gaines (Forest Whitaker) – whose tenure encompassed the terms of eight different presidents – is a serious Oscar contender. THE COUNSELOR November 15th The latest film from Ridley Scott boasts a killer cast, a drug-fuelled plot and a script written by legendary American novelist Cormac McCarthy. One of those most anticipated film events of the year. Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence is back in the ring as Katniss Everdeen, hero to the twelve districts of Panem, and the bane of President Snow's (Donald Sutherland) existence.
