With the year drawing to a
close, this issue, we bring you the
highlights of our coverage that spans
these 12 months. Turn to page four
for more on that.
In our last profile interview
for the year, we bring you a key
veteran, who's in the top annual
Power List for hoteliers in the
Middle East. We met up with Glenn
de Souza at a recent trade show to
pick on his ideas and thoughts on
what it takes to grow markets such
as Myanmar and Iraq. We also had
a quick chat with ZUJI Singapore's
Chua Hui Wan, to get a hint of
what's to come in 2014.

announced the addition of a new
and lovable member to its team.
Baby elephant Namchok is
already adjusting well to his new
role as the star of the resort and
brightening up the lives of every
guest and associate at Angsana
Laguna Phuket. Two and a half year
old Namchok is the successor of
beloved Chokdee, who is retiring
from his role as resident elephant

New openings like the relaunch of
The Scarlet, in Singapore also made
it to our news page this issue, along
with updates on London losing its
position as the global aviation hub.
All in all, there is indeed positive
growth particularly in the AsiaPacific region this year. I look
forward to yet another year of
interesting developments in the
travel trade. May the journey into
2014 be a smooth and productive
one.

at the resort. Through sheer
coincidence, both Namchok and
Chokdee means lucky in Thai, and
the new baby elephant is off to an
auspicious start with his new role.
Namchok will take residence in
the spacious elephant pavilion within
the Laguna Phuket integrated resort,
where he is free to roam, play, and
snack on two favourite dishes: tasty
bananas and fresh pineapple-leafs.
Namchok will visit the resort
twice a day, where he will enjoy a
mid-morning snack at Marketplace
restaurant at 8.30am, and will partake
in a leisurely walk past the crystal
waters of the Andaman Sea when he
makes a visit to the beach at 3pm.
He loves children as well as starring
in pictures, and would gladly love to
be a part of events or weddings at
Angsana Laguna Phuket.
