Boilermakers Off To Bumpy Start
Tough losses to Buckeyes, Gophers put Purdue in hole
Dec. 31
No. 3 Ohio State 78, Purdue 69
Jan. 5
Minnesota 82, Purdue 79
During a Boilermaker second-half run that saw
Purdue pull to a brief lead, Ohio State coach
Thad Matta gives a direct message to his team
about what he wants it to do. With the win,
Matta is now 15-6 against Purdue in his 11th
Big Ten season at Ohio State.
Basil Smotherman works for defensive position against the Buckeyes'
LaQuinton Ross in the first half.
Smotherman got the call on the flop
here but didn't get a charge later
on a controversial call in midway
through the second half.
Coach Matt Painter was happy with the Boilermakers effort against the Buckeyes but wanted to see
more success on 50-50 balls.
After the blocking call on Smotherman
with 11:18 in the contest, the freshman
forward looks to the scoreboard with
classmate Kendall Stephens to check out
the replay.
