Boilermakers beat Lions in improbable fashion
Sterling Carter gets control of the
basketball moments after Ronnie
Johnson tipped the ball from Tim
Frazier's hands on Penn State's inbounds pass. The play allowed the
Boilermakers to call a timeout to set
up more last-second heroics.
On the subsequent in-bounds play, Jay
Simpson fires a near-perfect pass to A.J.

Penn State called timeout in an
attempt to ice Hammons, but Coach
Matt Painter is shown here trying to
keep the Boilermakers loose before
the fateful free throw. Painter said
later he took orders for postgame
pizza in the huddle, a ploy to try
to relax an admittedly nervous
Hammons.
Hammons, who didn't make a field goal the entire game and struggled
down the stretch at the free throw line, made the game-winning free throw.
For the contest, Hammons was 10 of 14 from the line to go along with his
seven rebounds and two blocks.
