"It's kind of neat to listen to some of the guys talk, really haven't done that with each individual, so it's fun to be able to do that," Hazell said. Hazell's goal was to try to find out what made players "tick," he said, and he quickly learned there are some passionate men in the program. "We do" have those players, he said. "One of the things I told them is we need the good to overtake the bad and the strong to overtake the weak. They're starting to get that." Another down? So far, linebacker Armstead Williams is the only member of the team to transfer after Hazell's arrival. Another could be looming. "There's (potentially) one more, and we'll find out if it's go- ing to certainly happen after I meet with him in a couple weeks," Hazell said. But attrition by transfer isn't the only way. Jordan Woods, who was sus- pended indefinitely after being arrested with Knauf last year, is officially off the team, Hazell con- firmed. Offensive tackle Josh Davis' career likely is over because of a nagging back injury, Hazell said. And though starting safety Taylor Richards will remain on the team, it hasn't been decided yet whether he'll miss any games after being arrested for underage drunk driving. Richards has been issued "punishment-type stuff," Hazell said, that includes commu- nity service work. A new view After spending a redshirt year as an un- dersized linebacker on the scout team, Dez- wan Polk-Campbell will be trying out a new position this spring: Safety. P o l k - C a m p b e l l , listed at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds by Purdue, could provide some length and potential range from the secondary. "We'll take a look at that and see if he can operate in space back there," Hazell said. It's likely there will be at least one other move made before spring, Hazell said. But he has yet to consult the player about it, so he's keeping it tight-lipped for now. officiAl list The NFL released its full list of participants for the NFL Scout- ing Combine, starting Feb. 19, and only one Purdue player was among the 300-plus invited. After having two Boilermak- ers in Indianapolis for the testing, interviews, etc., last year, only cor- nerback Ricardo Allen will be at Lucas Oil Stadium this year. Teammate Bruce Gaston, a defensive tackle who played with Allen in the East-West Shrine Game, and punter Cody Webster weren't invited. Fifty-six defensive linemen are on the participation list and 10 specialists, including five punters. Of the three finalists for the Ray Guy Award, given to the nation's top punter, only the winner was invited to the Combine. j The iPad app is available at the App store.
