rv-pro.com April 2014 • RV PRo • 73 Luxe options include a self-seeking satel- lite dish, slide-out awnings and toppers, dual pane frameless windows, Fan-Tastic vent fan in the half-bath, and a Weber electric grill. As an example of ARV 's pledge to "explore advanced towing technologies," Bowerman notes that Augusta is "looking at putting in a touch-screen panel that will control all lights and slides, as well as the leveling system. at, however, is still in the works." All in all, ARV management feels the $115,000 MSRP is well justified. Dealers Like the Luxe All these amenities prompted some reworking of the Luxe since its introduc- tion to dealers at the Elkhart County Open House last September. Dealer reception was good, according to Bowerman. However, there were some caveats. One of the drawbacks was the weight. "The first one (prototype) weighed 17,000 pounds, which is a touch on the heavy side," Bowerman says. "A lot of dealers thought it would be too heavy. ey wanted us to get it down so that a 3/4-ton truck can tow it, as opposed to a 1-ton truck." ARV started by changing out the quartz countertops with Corian countertops and going to the lighter, knotty alder wood cab- inetry. Other weight-saving tweaks were underway with an eye on getting down to a lower, though unspecified weight. However, upon further review, "We're not going to change as much as we origi- nally thought," Bowerman says. "e fact of the matter is, at the Open House launch, none of the dealers knew Luxe was coming out," he explains. "We were so new to the market, some dealers were a little curious. Now that it's out there, everything will be good." As this issue of RV PRO went to press, the company was still considering ways to lighten the Luxe. "More than likely the unit will have to be pulled by a 1-ton truck," omas confirms. "If we do skinny it down and make a ¾-ton tow unit, we will definitely be promoting that to help sell the product." Micah Salter, sales manager at Fedders Marine & RV in Le Mars, Iowa, which took delivery of the first Luxe, says what caught his eye was "the quality of construction, hands down. Esthetically, it was nothing short of a high-end condo. It's unlike any- thing I have ever seen. If you're looking to separate yourself from the pack, this is the one to buy. It's a home away from home." In fact, the man who bought the first Luxe is an oil pipeline certifier and will make the Luxe his home on the road, Salter says. Salter took delivery of the unit even though he never saw it in person until 1-inch glass backsplash, range hood with exhaust fan, Fan-Tastic vent, and a tank- less water heater that provides instant hot water on demand. e Luxe features upscale Samsung LED HD TVs and Samsung Surround Sound in both the living room and bedroom. e master bathroom includes a one- piece colored fiberglass shower, porcelain toilet, Fan-Tastic vent fan, and a skylight above the shower. Other standard interior features include a dual satellite TV hookup, fireplace, dual Quiet Cool air conditioners, Dyson vacuum, washer/dryer prep, manual day/ night shades, frameless windows, Lane fur- niture, LED interior recessed lights, vinyl plank flooring, and a Serta mattress. Residential-style features are located throughout the Luxe, including the bedroom, including a king-size bed, an upscale Samsung LED HD TV and plush Shaw carpeting.
