OUR PLAYLIST Draft Day Drake Poppin Tags (Remix) feat. Lil Boosie & Laudie Future Sunshine (Remix) feat. Rick Ross & Common Wale, Rick Ross, Common High As Hell feat. Wiz Khalifa B.o.B Here's the hip hop on our playlist this month: Frontloading isn't a problem that duo Freddie Gibbs & Madlib have on 'Piñata', the bulk of the guests including what seems like half of Odd Future are on the second half of the record. Particular highlight is the Danny Brown featuring 'High' with his sharp delivery infecting the track, and it's got future-classic written all over it with a misty atmosphere that encompasses various retro vocal samples and their straight-up, conversational flow. ALBUM OF THE MONTH FREDDIE GIBBS & MADLIB - PIÑATA It's all smokey vibes and a cornucopia of inspirational samples from this duo. ARTIST OF THE MONTH ISAIAH RASHAD Rising star Isaiah Rashad is signed to Top Dog Ent. alongside Kendrick Lamar TRACK OF THE MONTH CLEAN BANDIT X KREPT & KONAN - RATHER BE X DON'T WASTE MY TIME SBTV hooked up Clean Bandit with Krept & Konan for an exclusive mash up of "Rather Be" and "Don't Waste My Time". Being Clean Bandit's mu- sic is already a 'fusion', it might seem strange that their sound could even fit with rap lyrics. But it does, and wonderfully so - this collaboration between the South-London rap duo and the up-coming experimen- tal electronic group turns out to be one of the catchi- est tunes we've heard in a few months. The instru- mental base is the one from "Rather Be", while the vocal line is sampled from "Don't Waste My Time". A perfect match. Tennessee-based rapper Isaiah Rashad started his music career when he was 10 years old, and after later rapping with friends whilst at university, Rashad had a stroke of luck when his cousin wound up owning a recording studio he was able to record music for free from. In 2013, he signed to TDE and moved to LA where he now resides, and if you're a fan of Kendrick La- mar, it's likely that labelmate Rashad's smooth flow and classic hip-hop beats will excite you. There've been a lot of humourous rap releases this year, but Rashad's serious about his craft - and has the lyrical skills to back it up. 18 Issue 62 / 2014 HIPHOP / RNB guestlist.net More @ guestlist.net/rnb-hiphop
