44 Issue 62 / 2014 FESTIVALS guestlist.net 1.OUTLOOK/DIMENSIONS When: Dimensions – August 28th – 31st Outlook – September 3rd – 7th Where: Fort Punta Christo, Pula, Croatia. Individual Quality: The sunsets alone are worth the price of the ticket. Since Outlook began in 2008, it has cast a veil over European dance music festi- vals. Originally created as an intimate and underground party get-away, this great summer occurrence has risen to world- wide fame over the short six years of its existence. The 2011 edition saw the capac- ity increase to almost double the size of the previous year, putting it on the radar of the larger dance music community, par- ticularly in England. Due to the changing nature of the festival and previous visitor's reactions to the very public increase, Di- mensions festival was formed as a slightly deeper, more underground alternative to shortly follow its expansive counterpart. Fort Punta Christo, situated on a small peninsula just outside the city of Pula, makes the perfect, uninterrupted setting for this wonderful week of sun, beats and beauties. When nighttime sees the fort transformed into what is essentially an enourmous club, the cross over of past and present makes for a truly unforget- table experience. This year's headliners for Outlook include Busta Rhymes, Barrington Levy and Digital Mystikz. Dimensions, with its more underground ethos hosts the likes of War Paint, Theo Parrish and Juan Atkins. In terms of festivals held at historical sites, these twinned events have the recipe sub- limely perfected. THE 2014 COUNTDOWN OF FESTIVALS AT HISTORICAL VENUES Summer is just around the corner and with all the talk of beaches and bikinis about to reach its peak, we thought we'd in- vestigate the festivals that offer something a little more intriguing than just sun and bass. In recent years we've seen dance music festivals explode into our summertime. A large portion of our precious holi- day is now spent going hard and letting loose at a party festival of our choice. With so many to choose from, we thought we'd take a look at the ones that offer something a little different – the retrospective vibe of a Castle, Fort or Stately Home. There's nothing quite like experiencing the cross-over of eras that comes with raving it up at a signifi- cant historical site, so here are our top five festival destina- tions for this summer that take you on a journey through great beats and a twist of the mysterious and distant past with their epic and ancient locations.
