As disaster movies go, Godzilla places it-
self at a fairly decent position in the scale.
The realism, essential in such a film, is bal-
anced well considering the extreme narra-
tive, with focus more on the catastrophe of
the happening than on a direct America vs.
Monster scenario.
The expected Hollywood inclusion of a
triumphant USA is not as obvious as one
might think and the loyalty to the story
certainly prevails. Only at the end of the
movie does the action come to a head,
leaving room throughout for adequate
suspense and suitable mystery.
This however is juxtaposed with the run-
ning family narrative that is unfortunately
not engaging enough to create any sort of
real emotion given the severity of the over-
all events.
Technically, the film is visually spot-on and
well worth the watch just for the striking
landscapes and visual effects.
The encompassing surround sound makes
the film a certified cinema experience.
Highly recommended, but not intellectu-
ally groundbreaking.
The long-awaited monster movie has finally arrived and is
pleasantly entertaining.
