A US couple have developed a solar panelled road surface
that could concievably produce more than three times the
US's annual eclectricity usage.
APP OF THE MONTH
Electrical engineers Scott and Julie Bru-
saw of Sagle, Idaho have developed a form
of solar panel that has an awful lot going
for it.
The proposed idea of paving roads with
the hexagonal panels not only suggests
a purer form of electrical generation, but
also a safer and easily repairable alterna-
tive to traditional asphalt.
The panels have a whole list of beneficial
properties including a self heating system,
making them immune to ice, and the capa-
bility to carry electrical signals that could
replace overhead telephone wires along
roadsides, making nationwide Wi-Fi an
easily plausible and freely available con-
cept. The easily replaceable panels also
have built in, self-reliant LEDs that make
driving at night much easier and safer.
From the Brusaw's calculations, the pan-
els more or less pay for themselves. Whilst
intelligent solar technology is not cheap,
these panels have the potenital to produce
enough electricity for the whole of Ameri-
ca if their plans come to pass.
If the attention and funding continues, this
could be a substantial step towards global,
renewable energy sources.
The Food Mirror for Android is an attrac-
tive, intuitive and useful tool for food lov-
ers who want to share innovations through
images. The information uploaded is not
only related to dishes or recipes, but also
to supermarket offers, organic food initia-
tives, advertising campaigns and anything
that has anything to do with food and the
occasional drink. The Spanish App was
launched one month ago and is the first
global platform for food observers who
can can discover and share their observa-
tions about food trends and begin to de-
sign the food of the future!
