HOW ARE YOU GUYS DOING? Brendan: Very very well, fresh from our live lounge at radio one about 30 minutes ago. The adrenaline is high. WHAT HAVE YOU BEEN UP TO RECENTLY? Jamie: The main thing for us is at the moment is obviously our new single, Don't Look Back. We've also been doing some remixes lately, one with Becky Hill and Oliver Heldens. We heard the track when Annie Mac was playing it and we heard it before the vocals went on. When Becky Hill got on the record she took it to a new level as she does, she's an amazing vocalist and made our job a lot easier! When the offer came in to do the remix there was no need to think about it. BRENDAN (FUTUREBOUND) YOU'RE FROM LIVERPOOL, HAS IT INFLUENCED YOUR MUSIC AT ALL? DO YOU PLAY TO A PARTICULAR AUDIENCE? Brendan: To be honest no, I mean Liverpool has always been more in favour of the house scene, I was one of the few who pushed through the scene. It was a hard slog but now it's great, you've got the great nights like Chibuku Shake Shake which is just killing it, it's like the Fabric of the north. But thank god for the internet you know because Jamie (Matrix) is in London and that's how we work together. HAVE YOU TAKEN JAMIE UP THERE TO SHOW HIM HOW ITS DONE IN LIVERPOOL? Jamie: I've been up there loads and loads of times, it's a cool city! WHO WOULD YOU SAY YOUR FAVOURITE DJ HAS BEEN TO COLLABORATE WITH? Jamie: Drum and Bass wise, Andy C's probably hard to beat. Outside of Drum and Bass, it's probably Erol Alkan, the way his sets flow I think is brilliant. Brendan: Carl Cox for me, he's one of those people that I grew up listening to you know, and his energy behind the decks! He still maintains that after all these years of being in the game. For me he's one of the DJs I learned from in terms of how to mix with energy and how to mix in key. WHEN YOU'RE NOT IN THE STUDIO AND WHEN YOU'RE NOT PERFORMING, WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO? Brendan: For me, football is my release. Jamie: I like cooking food. Toad in the Hole is one of my signature dishes. Brendan: For me, it's risotto. Fresh risotto. Mushroom, chicken, sometimes if I'm feeling funky sausage and caramelised onion. Oh yeah I go in. HAVE YOU GOT ANY TIME OFF PLANNED? I GUESS THE SUMMER'S A PRETTY BIG TIME FOR YOU. Brendan: It's festival season now obviously, we were at Glastonbury last week which blew our socks off. It was actually my debut of going to the place so actually playing it… I know Jamie's been there before.. Jamie: Yeah but I went on the saturday, did a proper Glastonbury night, had a bit of time off there and saw some really cool bands. WHAT WAS YOUR SET LIKE? Jamie: It was great. We were playing in a stage with Sigma, Wilkinson and Kove, it was amazing vibes in there. Brendan: It really lives up to the hype that it gets, you know what I mean. When we finished our set we went over to see Jamie's brother Optical who was playing the closing set on the Arcadia stage. Jamie: That was kind of a highlight of the weekend as well... WHERE'S YOUR FAVOURITE PLACE TO PLAY WHEN YOU'RE FUCKED? Brendan: For me, I love Womb in Tokyo. Jamie: Yeah well we made a record called Womb, after that club. Brendan: The next day we on the train we had two hours to make a song and we made this track called womb, using the picture of the crowd as the cover. Jamie: Tokyo in general is a really cool place to hang out. Australia's always a good place for us, we're doing a tour there soon. We were out there in November doing Stereosonic festival, it's a bit like a travelling circus, the same line up just plays in 5 different cities in a week. Brendan: It's hard to choose a place that you want to play at the moment because there's so many places that are so vibrant and active, all round the world it's going off. HOW WOULD YOU COMPARE AMERICA TO AUSTRALIA IN TERMS OF CROWD? Brendan: Similar, they're very EDM. The whole things gone a full circle, it's termed 'bass music' now, we like that because it can mean anything. Jamie: The good thing about playing down there is you've got a lot of daytime festivals in the sunshine and all that, you know. DO YOU HAVE A SECRET GUILTY PLEASURE IN TERMS OF MUSIC? Jamie: We did go and hear the last few songs of Dolly Parton at Glastonbury Brendan: She's looking well for a 67 year old! ARE YOU TEMPTED TO DO ANY VOCALS ON YOUR TRACKS? Jamie: Oh we'd love to be able to sing but i think we've established it's not for us Brendan: We do a mean Swedish House Mafia wail… it's not for now though. WHAT HAS BEEN THE BEST MOMENT OF YOUR CAREER SO FAR? Jamie: Doing the live lounge just now, we're still hyped off that! it was the first time we've done it, a real big thing for us. Brendan: Obviously we've been making records in our studios and DJing for a good amount of years so to go from that onto the live side of things, it's a big role. Jamie: Also to see how our last single went. We didn't expect it to be that big, and so it's nice to get that response.
