28 INDIE / ROCK guestlist.net Issue 65 / 2014 ARTIST OF THE MONTH THE MACCABEES Rebellous and at the same time soul-warming songs of The Maccabees, the band of 5 young and full of drive British dudes, will be a real trouvaille for a summer playlist. OUR PLAYLIST Another Likely Story (Neon Indian Remix) Au Revoir Simone Woodland The Paper Kites Siesta The Zebras Black Hole She & Him Here's the Indie on our playlist this month: ALBUM OF THE MONTH LA ROUX-TROUBLE IN PARADISE TRACK OF THE MONTH ALT-J - HUNGER OF THE PINE It is hard to find anyone who has not yet enjoyed 'Tropical Chancer', the futuristic, downbeat disco track, which is opening La Roux's new album, namely "Trouble in Paradise". The song not only pleased the ears on indi-admirers but also made the dedicated group's fans exult since this song was the first piece of news after a 5-year creative break from La Roux. On the 7th on July the album got oficially released and open for thrilled public. Warm, sexy and groove- led "Trouble in Paradise" undoubtedly acquitted the expectations and long years of hard work. You must have wondered, where did the girl singing "Bulletproof" dissapear. Good news, she is back, and not alone, with a bunch of incredibly fresh songs which make her new album sound so special. Two years after their debut album and just a few months away from the departure of Gwil Sainsbury ,they are back with new songs and new rhythms. Hunger of the Pine is just the right way to introduce us to it. A pleasant and intriguing song just following a new alt-J's vibe. Adding intensity to a bed of minimal, synth-y blips, they remember their fans why they loved and supported them two years ago. It also samples the words "I'm a female rebel" from Miley Cyrus's 4x4. Their originality and their will to experiment will not be easily forgotten. After the success of their first album An Awesome Wave, alt-J are ready to return to the music scene with This is all Yours . A new track called Hunger of the Pine was released to announce their comeback. Those 5 gentlemen are originally from London, but already feel home in dozens of European cities as well as on the other side of the ocean. The alias is coming from the Bible, but the guys did not have any underlying religious purpose in mind while choosing a name- the musicians simply picked out a ran- dom word from a book, which in the end, made those Lon- doners so famous. Their music is a spicy mix of naivety in lyrics and rebelish tunes. Touching "Toothpaste kisses" and spiky "First Love" singles are what one may say "business cards" of the band. This spirit of controversy in The Maccabees' creation heats up the interst of the fans, who are awaiting the forth album this September. More @ guestlist.net/indie
