40 Issue 65 / 2014 FESTIVALS guestlist.net LOVEBOX "Extreme weather warnings" read the Met Office website as I woke up on the Saturday morn- ing of Lovebox, to the sound of rain lashing at the window. I was not expecting much from the day as I decided which shoes I would care the least about being ruined in a mud-filled field. Fast forward 4 hours, and I was complaining about my feet being too hot as the sun beat down on me to the sound of Breach pumping out a hit-filled set - and things only got hotter, bigger and better from there! The number and variety of stages in the huge Victoria Park was stagger- ing - there was a stunning choice of world-class acts performing at brilliantly named stages such as The Bearded Kitten Manor. The impressiveness was only further intensified by the array of transex- ual dancers, circus acts, bubbles and oversized flowers around the site. There was a lot to do and see but there were some artists and moments which really stood out - Huxley played a bouncing mid afternoon house set at the Distrikt stage, which was packed out all day. Hercules & Love Affair gave a gloriously trippy performance on the Western Stage, which was given an extra dose of camp by a trio of show-stealing voguing and waacking male dancers, who had enough combined sass to drive the crowd wild. Monki blew the roof off at the way-too-small Ap- erol Spritz stage, playing every classic banger you could possibly think of in a set that ranged from garage to jungle to RnB, without being the slightest bit cheesy or boring - there was a huge queue of people trying to get in by the end of her set! Living legend Nas drew arguably the biggest crowd of the day at the Main Stage, whilst universally loved Bonobo gave a stunning and emotional live per- formance to a packed-out Big Top, with the help of orchestral musi- cians and singers. But one of the nicest surprises of the day was my festival food - polenta and chick- pea fritters served with ratatouille, feta and a rocket salad at the Dis- appearing Dining Club was one of the poshest festival foods I have ever had - all for the same price as a burger! This weekend Lovebox really delivered on every count, as promised - performers, decor, food, novelty festival stalls and even the weather was all the best of the best, whilst the line-up was a brilliant and varied selection of both legendary and underground artists at the top of their game. Highly recommended. For once, a festival with the beautiful weather to match it's stunning line up
