I'M JOINED HERE BY THE ABSOLUTELY WONDERFUL, AMERIE. SO THE WONDERFUL THIRD ALBUM, 'BECAUSE I LOVE IT' YOU'VE GOT THE SINGLE 'GOTTA WORK' AND MY PER- SONAL FAVOURITE IS 'TAKE CONTROL' SO WITH 'TAKE CONTROL', I LIKE THE GUITAR RIFF ON THAT IT KIND OF HAS AN 80'S FEEL AND OLD SCHOOL FEEL, SO JUST TAKE ME BACK, WHAT'S THE CREATIVE HISTORY ON THAT ONE? Well really, wow, you're taking me back! I remember, because Stylo did that one and we went to London and we did some vocals here and it was hard because he was travelling a lot and I was travelling a lot and we were like trying to nail each other's schedules down and finally we were able to get together in the studio but I remember 'cause it was so hard and finally we both happen to be in Lon- don at the same time so we went to the studios and I was like hey great, lets do this and so we ended up be- ing able to vocal together on that for a lot of that. Oh, yeah, You know what it is, I don't dwell a lot. The creative process When I create something it's like this thing that happens and you kind of get it out and I don't really revisit it again. It's just something that has to come out of me and then I move on cause it's something that I have to get off my chest. We got together, we were able to vo- cal together which is rare 'cause usu- ally in this day and age everyone just sends in vocals. There was something else I wanted to do so we brought in live horns, it needed to be live. We just needed to add more punchiness! I haven't read music in a long time, I used to be in a band, I used to play the flute so I can read music but I'm rusty at it so I was just trying to di- rect these guys! I'm bringing back a lot here, I'm glad we are talking about this. OK SO YOU'VE GOT AN ALBUM CALLED BILLY COMING SOON AND YOU'VE GOT CYMATIKA VOLUME 1 COMING SOON BUT BILLY'S COMING FIRST. SO THE WAY ARTISTS GET JUDGED BY THEIR BODIES OF WORK, THIS WILL BE YOUR 5TH AND HEN 6TH VOLUME OF WORK COMING OUT, HOW DOES BILLY DIFFER FROM YOUR PREVIOUS WORK? Well Billy is like an extension of 'Be- cause I love it'. I think really a lot of it is how the sound has changed; it's an extension, it's not the same, It has changed because I continue to evolve. It's hard for me to pinpoint how it's different because some of the sounds are similar but I would say it's heavier. ANY COLLABORATIONS LINED UP IS HAVE YOU GOT ANY DREAM COLLABO- RATIONS? There are a couple of collaborations that I would love to see happen but I don't wanna say anything in case i jinx it! That's really the only reason why and they don't even know that I would like to collaborate yet, I figure I should tell them first! CYMATIKA I UNDERSTAND THAT'S THE STUDY OF VISUAL SOUND, ARE YOU HEAVILY INTO METAPHYSICS? It's just vibrations and how we're all energy and all vibrations frequencies and it's so fascinating to see how fre- quencies are able to manifest into shapes when you throw a frequency on a plate and you see sand shifting and you go from one frequency to the next and back to the original, it'll go from this shape to this shape and if you go back to that first sound, the sand will go back to the original. So there is like a certain mathematical order to frequency in the universal and I think music it's all frequency and vibration so we're affected by music and we're affected by our thoughts and I'm really approach- ing this trilogy from this perspec- tive. Each album is different from the other but with each one, my intention is for them to have a very cohesive sound but ties in with that whole idea which is being conscious of the fre- quency of it. Well if you look at music itself, a sound can't motivate and move peo- ple but when out music together, it can encapsulate emotions, it can en- capsulate memories and thoughts, it can motivate people in a way other elements can't. There's more to mu- sic than meets the eye so I'm very interested to see the new project. Let's get into the new single, What I want released 10th August, the opening line is 'Let me be your one and only' and of course, millions of men around the world said absolute- ly yes of course! It samples the Sug- arhill Gang classic, apache jump on it, which provide an thup production for your vocals on top. So tell me the creative vision behind the song itself and the video... We haven't shot the video yet.... I've written the treatment for the video so we know what we wanna do with it. I'm really excited about it. As far as the song, my husband produced it, he knows what I love and he knows that I love hip hop and breakbeats and he asked me if I would be up for it and just the sample in general. So we did that track and usually things come to me really quickly but this one took me a second for it to be the right marriage of the melody and writing on top of this beat, It had to be the right thing. I wanted to come hard but also let it breathe, I wanted it to have it's highs and lows and lulls. so but then we got there. I say a minute, it took 8 months but I guess because I was writing so much for Cymatika where things were coming to me so fast but also be- cause I was thinking so much about the lyrics and the melody and build- ing the track around that and with this it was like it's so there it's so hot, it's so amazing but it has to very spe- cific to what would go here. But it ending up coming, 8 months later we got it. I wouldn't even check in every- day, I would let it marinate try not to think about it too much and then see what I was feeling. ALL YOUR FANS ARE SHOWING A LOT OF LOVE TO IT. QUICKLY TELL ME ABOUT PHOENIX RISING, THIS IS YOUR INDEPENDENT LABEL, ARE YOU LOOK- ING TO SING DIFFERENT ARTISTS? We're working with Ciara Hackidge, she's a young singer from Canada, and Phoenix rising is new in terms that putting out the music is new but we've had the label since 2004 so we've had it a while and we've always had an ear out for talent but definite- ly keep an eye out for siara. AND WHEN ARE YOU GOING TO BE BACK IN THE UK? the uk has always been really great to me, everyone has always just shown me so much love and I really love the vibe in the UK, the city the feel of it, the people, I;m coming the end of July, I will be right back but I need to give you time to miss me!
