What does pH mean? The "p" stands for potential and the "H" stands for Hydrogen. Putting it simply it is a scale of 1-14. Ideally in pool water and depending on the interior of a pool the pH should be kept around 7.2 – 7.8 which is the middle range. Low pH is corrosive and can cause skin and eye irritation, corrosion of metal parts and etching of plaster surfaces.
