How much of any chemical to add to my pool? All brands of pool chemical products (apart from Hydrochloric Acid) have instructions on the label as to how much product to add. If your Pool Professional has tested your water they will instruct you as to exactly how much to use. There is no rule of thumb for adding Hydrochloric Acid to lower pH. Check out the table below. Hydrochloric Acid is generally done on a treat and test basis. This product is highly corrosive and can cause severe burns to skin, damage to eyes and respiratory system. Wear safety goggles, rubber gloves and rubber boots. Mix thoroughly with water before adding to pool. ALWAYS A DD CHEMICALS TO WATER – NEVER WATER TO CHEMICALS. It is called DRY ACID or Sodium Bisulphate.
