• A general rule is that you can swim within 2 hours of adding chemicals, PROVIDING YOU HAVE HAD THE POOL FILTER OPERATING. Common sense prevails if adding large quantities. Ensure you retest your pool water before swimming after adding chemicals, especially if large quantities were added. • Make sure your pressure gauge is working on your pool filter. This will tell you when to clean your filter. For worry free operation filters should be cleaned regularly as wastes and contaminants build up quickly. • You must filter long enough to turn over the complete volume of your pool water each day. Turning off your filter or salt chlorinator is false economy. • A dog swimming in your pool is equivalent to 30 humans! • Chlorine should be added daily otherwise much larger doses will be required to maintain the pool water in a sanitary state. • Ensure you have Stabiliser in your pool. The level should be 50ppm. This product stops the sun leaching chemicals from pool water. Without it chlorine consumption will double. • Algae and other problems are nearly always due to not enough chlorine, filter problems or water balancing problems. • If you can smell a strong chlorine odour, what you smell is chloramines. You do not have enough chlorine in the pool. • Do not use chlorines in heated pools or spas. We talk about heated water in Spas and Hot Tubs in our " SPA CARE IS EASY" booklet. 49
