Right. We know it's going to be a crazy week ahead. There is a reason
why it's called TravelRave although i suspect that when the powers-that-
be named the week, they were hoping people would associate it with
the rave that happens at full moon parties and not the word that makes
you think "loony bin".
So here are my 10 tips on how you can survive the week without
ending up stark raving mad.
1. Pace yourself. do not attempt to do everything and be everywhere.
pick and choose what you want to learn, and who you want to see.
Remember, quality over quantity.
2. Party wisely. i know, a contradiction in terms. But again, pick your
parties well. don't feel you have to be at every party, shaking hands
with everyone and handing out name cards (does anyone do that
these days?) and asking the same questions, "When did you arrive?"
"Where are you staying?" "When do you leave?" Those kind of
conversations can be energy-draining.
3. Pack extra phone batteries. otherwise, what are you going to do with
your hands when your smartphone dies?
4. Get a pre-paid SIM card. Save money and frustration. Singapore's
still not as wired as, say, Seoul.
5. Use taxi apps – grabTaxi, EasyTaxi and Uber are all operating in
Singapore.
6. Don't over-eat. i know, everyone will be trying to get you to eat in
Singapore because that's all people do here. When not eating food,
they're talking about it. But honestly, too much food for the stomach
dulls the brain and you need your wits about you if you want to do
business and appear smart.
7. This is the time to invest in a device that measures how many steps
you take. i love my Up at conferences and trade shows. once, i
clocked 10,000 steps just moderating a half-day event in Bangalore.
it makes you feel real pumped Up.
8. Sneak in a foot massage. I find the fish-eating-toes thing a waste of
time, more ticklish than therapeutic, but reflexology always makes
me feel like I could fly.
9. learn a new singlish word a day and practise it with a local.
10. Do not go to the casino.
