A mound of documents pertaining to the operation of Westport's Snowfluent System dating back six years, has been delivered to Northern Watertek. The company, who was involved in the original installation and operation of the system, requested copies of reports on main- tenance, testing, treatment volumes and changes to the system, dating as far back as 2008 when they were last involved. Westport delivered the documents at the end of October and now await the company's response. They have offered to repair the system – for free back in the spring – and, regard- less of whether they do follow through on that, after examining the moun- tain of documents, they claim repairs won't cost anywhere near past esti- mates. "There was an awful lot of documentation (to go through)," said Clerk- Treasurer Scott Bryce, as council discussed how long a response may take. "He (company vice- president Bernard Masse) just received them so I didn't want to be calling a week later," Mayor-elect Robin Jones said at the meeting. The current council held their final regular meeting on Monday. On a positive front, both of Westport's appli- cations under currrent infrastructure grant pro- grams were approved - many across the province were not – and now they move on to the next step. Both applications involve the water and sewer system – one for around $1 million and another for more than $2 million. The full applica- tion has to be in by Dec. 19 with a response from the upper levels of govern- ment expected in March. Santa's first visit to North Leeds for the open- ing of the Christmas sea- son begins this Saturday in Lyndhurst. The community's annu- al Santa Claus parade leaves from the old school grounds with a line-up beginning at 12:30 p.m. for the 2 p.m. parade. Prizes will be awarded in a number of categories. Santa Claus will be avail- able for a visit with the children after the parade at the library.
