Municipalities on the winning end of the equa- tion were the gains of Athens ($13,900), Leeds and the Thousand Islands ($6,100) and Rideau Lakes ($22,000). In Leeds Grenville allo- cation notices were bad news as municipalities funding was lost for six municipalities including Augusta ($16,200) Eliza- bethtown-Kitley ($94,000), E d w a r d s b u rg h - C a r d i n a l ($166,000), Front of Yonge ($17,000), North Grenville ($271,000), and Westport ($1,800). Merrickville Wol- ford's allocation was not available. Rideau Lakes' neigh- boring municipalities of Last Thursday a Parks Canada crew replaced the lower gate at Beveridge Locks. After the old gate was lifted out the workers moved the hardware from the old gate to the new. The locks were built in 1887 to travel up the Tay River to Perth. The former gates were built in 1998 and required replacement earlier than the usual 20 to 25 year lifespan. Lions organizers are hoping that this year's parade theme, 'My Christ- mas Wish' will bring par- ticipation by organizations and businesses to make this one of the best parades ever. This year's parade will have lots of music with five bands performing including the Gordon Pipe Band, the Perth Citizens Band, The King of the Swingers, The Tri-Can Steel Band and the Rideau District High School Junior Band. "We approached every- one who has ever used the rink and got letters of sup- port. Children even wrote letters," said DARS chair Pat Philips The group has raised $30,000 with multiple fundraising projects and donations over the last three years.
