We're here with Shystie, what's up Shystie! I'm all good, I'm all good! Could you describe to me your current state of mind in five words or less? Er, erratic, positive, very visual...I know kind of what I want...and hardworking. I wanted to talk to you about your new single, Let me Go.. Which is coming out at the beginning of February! It's pretty soulful, who in- spired it?! Just, erm, guys really. You know when you're in a relationship but might not know where exactly you stand so it's either like "let's do it together, 100% or, let me go...you go do your thing, I'll go and do mine. It's kind of the in-between of that. That's kind of the inspiration behind the track. I wanted like a love song because I don't really have many of those. So I sat down with the producer and the singers on the hook and we wrote the hook together. Then I kind of got in my zone, had some alcohol, had some food, and then I just did my verses. You've had a pretty long and successful career, how do you think you've changed since you started out? I've grown, the progression has been much better than when I first started. [At first] I was coming in to the industry, young and energetic, not know- ing what's going on and that sort of thing. Now I've been in it for a [while]...this is my tenth year, 2014, so I'm more clued- up about what goes on. You've done a lot of acting, what's next, Hollywood? Who knows! I'm with an acting agency at the moment who are going to help push me into some more realms of acting. I definitely wanna do more act- ing and I definitely wanna do more of Dubplate Drama - we had a tweet-up [recently] "let me know who wants Dubplate Drama Five to come out" and then the producer of Dubplate Drama 5 was like "yeah, we need the people to get behind it and let us know if they want it". So if the people really want it, they gotta let me know on my twitter. So fingers crossed... You've dabbled in fashion as well, you walked London fash- ion week, where do you have the most fun? The most fun has to be music, cos that's what I first started with, that's my number one passion, I have to have music. Definitely music, then I would say acting, I love acting! Then third, modelling. I wanted to talk to you about Annie Mac, who has recently said that she's pissed off that journalists keep asking her about being a woman. Does it annoy you when people ask you about being a female MC? It does cos, I'm an artist. Some of the guys I hear are shit and I know I can do better than them. So it's not about "oh, you're good for a girl" - no. I'm just good. I feel the same as Annie Mac. I guess it's like this cos it's a male-dominated scene so when a woman comes through the impression is like "oh my god something new!" But instead it should be like "you're a good artist, let's talk about that", instead of making it about gender. Who in the world do you most like working with? In the world? Dead or alive? Either! Dead, it would probably be Biggie, or Garnett Silk, he's like a reggae artist. Alive, I'd like to work with Missy Elliott you know, I've grown up on her, I think she's so creative, her videos and that... And what would you be doing if you weren't doing acting, modelling, singing...? If I weren't in the entertain- ment business I wanted to be a graphic designer and do artwork for Pixar and stuff like that. That's what I had gone to college for, to study and every- thing, but there were no more spaces left, there was only sound engineering so I ended up doing music! And now I'm here, so yeah that's what I wanted to do, graphics for Pixar but you never know, I'm getting into acting so I might be able to do a voiceover for one of the Pixar films or something, that would be sick. Oh my god I would love that. 7 25 Issue 70 / 2014 HIPHOP / RNB guestlist.net " Some of the guys I hear are shit and I know I can dobetter than them. " This Hackney born MC, musician, actress and model started gaining fame in 2003 with her white label response to Dizzee Rascal's "I Luv U"[1] and a tour with Basement Jaxx, The Streets and 50 Cent which led to her being scooped up by major label Polydor. Fastforward to 2014 and it's been a busy year: her new tracks 'STOP' and 'Let Me Go' have won support from 1Xtra, Capital Xtra, Kiss Fresh and MTV.
