42 Issue 70/ 2014 REGGAE / DANCE HALL guestlist.net There's something truly special about Studio One's output from the 60s and 70s. Associated with a huge number Reggae's leading lights, from Lee 'Scratch' Perry to The Ethiopians, from 1963 until the early 80s Studio One was responsible for a sound that has shaped and defined reggae for decades to come. Listening to tacks such a Jerry Jones' 'Still Waters' or Myrna Hague's 'What About Me', it is abundantly clear that Clement Dodd managed to capture real magic in the label's Kingston studio. Effervescent reverb lends the vocals a subtle delicacy, with sparsely employed slap-back delay adding texture that leaves the recordings sounding as vibrantly alive as they did 40 years ago. The debate and movement to reform the prohibition of cannabis around the world has been fluctuating in and out of our headlines for years. The latest partnership between Bob Marley's family and New York based Privateer Holdings are pushing this ambition further than any other brand has ever done before. The products that will be marketed under the name "Marley Natural" include lotions, sun-creams and accessories. Loose buds, oils and concentrates will also be sold, as well as particular strains of heirloom Jamaican cannabis; a blend favoured by the icon himself! Brendan Kennedy, the CEO of Privateer Holding, has stated that the brand expects to have these products on sale in 'legal areas' by next year. This unfortunately does not include Great Britain, as our lovely legislation laws deem the 'herb' as a class B drug. With Marley Natural, Bob continues to elaborate his 'irie' legacy, even after his passing. Combining inspiring lyrics with an accompaniment of tribal handclaps and smooth backing harmonies, the single is an exciting and powerful preview of the latest compilation by Ghetto Youths International. The full compilation album, Set Up Shop Volume 2, will be released later this month on December 23rd. If this track is any indication of the rest of the collection, then this is set to be an album of very meaningful and innovative tracks, that simultaneously respect their traditional tribal roots. ARTIST OF THE MONTH More @ guestlist.net/Reggae You may be thinking that this is an amateurs obvious choice, but there is a reason why Bob is back at the forefront of conversation BOB MARLEY TRACK OF THE MONTH "THE LIVING BREED" BY DAMIAN "JR.GONG" MARLEY, BLACK-AM-I, BIGGZ GENERAL, JO MERSA & ILLESTR8 Yahoo Music! has released a never before heard single from the upcoming album from the sons of Bob Marley
