7 7 Issue 70 / 2014 GUESTLIST guestlist.net Good EGGs: RichiE and thE nEw GEnERation of upcominG tEEnaGE dJs GEt thEiR GRoovE on at fabRic The Groove School crew early evening takeover of Room 2! Seeing Fabric in all its glory at 5pm on a Tuesday, without a swaying body in sight was quite impressive. Nevertheless, these wide, open spaces were soon filled with the familiar sounds of warming bass and a perky hi- hat. Our hosts? An exclusive collection of DJs that you won't have seen before. These VIPs were between the ages of 11 and 16, and had just arrived at Fabric coming straight from school. This was the Groove School crew early evening takeover of Room 2! Groove School has been steadily gaining momentum, and now hosts weekly workshops. Children of all ages from various different background and abilities are able to come and learn DJ skills, musical production and musical history, without spending a penny. We discovered that hip hop was a popular genre that the young DJs liked to spin, along with jazz, house and sometimes even dubstep. We also met a young boy named Bobby, who said that his aspiration was to be the 'world's first blind DJ'. We also chatted to Terry Francis, a long-serving Fabric resident with an outstanding DJ career behind him, who has recently joined the Groovy family. He too expressed his excitement and support for the group's activities, and told us that the Groove School would themselves be taking on a monthly afternoon 'residency' at the infamous Fabric. The combination of the really quite impressive music mix for the evening, (the momentarily rapid volume changes and jolty queues were blissfully overlooked), the laughing faces of the cheeky young teenagers and the beaming chests of the organizers, proved that the Groove School was clearly much more than just a workshop. Groove School plan to continue their fantastic work for months and years to come, and are hoping to extend their network to different areas of London. The project is truly special to the students and organisers, bringing people of different backgrounds and generations together with musical beats. why doEs EvERyonE GivE a shit that ZoElla usEd a Ghost wRitER? Zoella used a ghost writer for her book. So what? If you haven't heard of Zoella, you are either over the age of 14, or have never been on YouTube. But just incase you hadn't, she's a 20 something who lives in Brighton and makes YouTube videos about eye shadow and hair styles. (No, really.) I'll admit, I do watch her videos. She's nice. Nice is a word I would never, ever want used about me, but that's what she is and there's no way around it. Watching her videos is like eating a biscuit without any chocolate – you'd rather watch something better, but what you have on offer will do. Zoella recently hit 6 million viewers, been given a teen award, was a part of Band Aid (fucking random) and last week, she released a book. A fucking book! She talked in videos about how she's wanted to write one for years and is so passionate and the story and the cover and blah de fucking blah. Everyone under the age of 16 lost their shit when it was released, and it sold almost 80,000 copies in a week. Then, everyone lost their shit again because it turns out she used a ghost writer. But I just can't understand why. I asked my 17 year old sister (a bit closer to Zoella's target market) and she said "Her main income isn't being a writer, and being an author isn't what she set out to do, so she can't be placed in the realm of other writers." And there you have it. Once again, my little sister is spitting out more wisdom than the ten million twats attacking Zoella because they read a Daily Mail article. By @smartphoneowner https://
