Township of Rideau Lakes councilors will be getting their first look at the operation needs of the township at a budget meeting on Monday Janu- ary 19. The public meeting, beginning at 2:30 will include presentations by staff of proposed operat- ing budgets for township departments. Managers' presenta- tions will include descrip- tions of their operations and staffing, a component which will be a helpful introduction for new coun- cilors. The meeting will be the first of a series of meet- ings when councilors will be balancing the needs of must-haves, want-to- haves, and requests from outside organizations. The council's most expensive decision in cre- ating the 2015 operating budget could be the form they decide their policing will take. The municipality cur- rently has its own detach- ment offices and a Police services board which offers the township some By Margaret Brand The Review-Mirror When cold weather or snow may be =unwelcome on village roads and side- walks snowfall at West- port's Waste Water Treat- ment Plant (WWTP) spells success for its operator. Snowmaking from effluent from the village's lagoon began last month and has succeeded in bringing the level of the north lagoon down as much as three inches. Water and air is pumped through towers which are equipped with nozzles which spray the water through the air to create snow. Last year an accumula- tion of water left from too few days of snowmaking over the winter, along with heavy rains combined to bring the level of the lagoon to dangerous heights. The municipality incurred hundreds of thou- sands of dollars of expens- es to have the sewage trucked to Smiths Falls for treatment. Last month the village had a visit to the WWTP of personnel from North- ern Watertek, including the designer of the process, Jeff White who had some suggestions for adjusting the operation. Snowmaking began again on Tuesday after the nozzles were cleaned and reinstalled at the sugges- tion of White. "I am feeling confident that we are going to do everything possible to make as much snow as possible," said Mayor Robin Jones who is confi- dent of operator Dave Wallond's commitment to the system's success this winter. "David has been doing a solid solid job knowing no one trained him on the snowfluent system," said Jones.
