32 Issue 71/ 2015 HIPHOP / RNB guestlist.net Although not exclusively a hip hop night, this event will be a must for any hip hop fan. Why? The answer is simple; Rodney P and Skitz, two titans of the UK hip hop scene. Very few artists in the scene can lay claim to the huge influence they have had over rap in this country. Alongside them are The Ragga Twins, two of jungle's most original and influential sons. In short, if you like serious beats and quality bars, you should be checking this night out – It's safe to assume that this will be a big one. Tru ThoughTs showcase @ The Forum Old masters come together for one awesome night hiphop Legends The game 6 albums in, and this modern master of hip hop is still killing it. The Game is that rare beast in hip hop; a west coast rapper who isn't dead, serving time, and is still making exciting rap music. The Game initially made his name with Tony Yayo, Lloyd Banks, Young Buck and Kidd Kidd as a part of 50 Cent's legendary G-Unit crew, and has been reliably putting out classic hip hop albums ever since. However, it wasn't until the release of his first solo album 'The Documentary' that the hip hop world really started to take notice. He has delivered the goods again and again with his critically acclaimed "The Doctor's Advocate", and the follow ups "LAX", "The R.E.D Album", and 2012's "Jesus Piece" . The Game finally achieved the highest honour of all last year... his sixth album 'Blood Moon: Year of The Wolf' was made Guestlist hip hop album of the week! As you'd imagine, the album is a master class in west coast, hardcore rap. On opening track "Bigger Than Me", The Game tears into the new generation of hip hop, launching into a highly explicit rant against the modern "soft ass" approach to hip hop. This is how west coast rap should be, lyrically about getting fucked up and having a good time, but brimming with aggression and fury, especially when directed against the establishment. Showing no signs of slowing down, The Game just completed a nationwide UK headline tour, and is still on top form even after such a long and successful career – here's hoping retirement is a long way off! More @ guestlist.net/rnb-hiphop Action Bronson, the supersized Albanian- American hip hop star, released a single from his upcoming major label debut "Mr. Wonderful" this month, and it's split opinion slightly. Production wise, "Actin' Crazy" is a definite departure from his trademark boom bap hip hop loaded with funk samples and traditional instrumentation, sounding more synthesised and slightly trap-like. While we were big fans of the old sound, this is a fresh sound for Bronson that really suits his flow.
