By Howie Crichton The Review-Mirror It had been a good win- ter for making snow, and the Village of Westport's Snowfluent wastewater treatment system has taken advantage of the weather so far. Despite some setbacks, including five broken pipes so far this season, the system operator had the main lagoon down to 64 cm deep earlier this month. "We're making progress. "I don't know how long the cold is going to last but when you are rely- ing on the cold, you will take it," Mayor Robin Jones said Tuesday. The 14-day forecast doesn't show a daytime high temperature above - 5°C and a nighttime high of -10°C. "It has been a fairly good season. The sale was made offi- cial Tuesday and would take place after the end of the current season. A movement that start- ed last winter, to turn the Eastern Ontario Junior Hockey League into a development system for the Central Canada Junior Hockey League (CCHL), is reportedly going to result in the loss of six of the EOJHL's 22 franchis- es. Akwesasne and Que- bec-based franchises Shawville and Gatineau already know they proba- bly aren't coming back next season and Gananoque looks to be returning to the Ontario District after decades in the Eastern Ontario league. That left two of the remaining 18 on the chop- ping block and the Rideaus' brass wanted to make sure Westport wasn't one of them. "This was our best option, going forward. "The objective was keeping the team in West- port," said Head Coach/GM Mike Seed Tuesday. The Smiths Falls Bears are owned by the Cassells, owners of Glenview Iron & Metal in Smiths Falls. "In the new league, you have to be aligned with a Jr. A team so we talked to the Cassell Family. "He (Chris Cassell) doesn't want to change anything," Seed and the current executive would stay in place. "They've owned the Bears for 10 years and they've done a great job," Seed said. Westport, along with other EOJHL teams applied to become mem- bers of the new league and, rumour has it many of the teams in the southwest region are prime candi- dates to be the unlucky two franchises.
