I'm here with Troy Hudson, hey Troy! Hi! She's just done an amazing set for us! So what have you been up to? Well I've just recently put out my debut EP called Protect Your Throne, PYT for short, it's out on iTunes, Google Play, Amazon. It's basically a compilation of seven tracks that tell a story through like love and relationships. I've got a series of music videos that I've shot, about five videos, that bring you through a story of a relationship that I'm going through, that goes from like being head over heels in love to being like not so great, and then I end up in a mental asylum going crazy! It's quite fun, you need to stay tuned! So you start off being head over heels, how does it end? What happens? He basically plays with my emotions, takes me through a lot of shit, and I end up just going crazy. Like when you're so in love with someone and you thought you knew them, and then they turn out to be the person you didn't know, and in the end I just end up in a mental home, because I do some messed up things to him! That's how it goes right!? But you're not actually in a mental home? Oh no, I'm good! I'm not actually even like that to be honest, it's just like portraying my music through visuals, so people can kind of get to grips with what I'm actually trying to express through my music. I like that, like a story EP. So if you telling someone "look though my YouTube", what's the song you would direct them to? The first song I'd direct them to is 'Head Over Heels', because that's where it all begins, that's where boy meets girl, girl meets boy, they fall in love. There's a video that comes after that called 'Predicament', they are the only two videos I have out at the moment, so once you've seen 'Head Over Heels', you'll see 'Predicament', and the other three will come in sequence to that, so you see the story unfold. What was the moment you decided, "OK I'm serious about music, this is what I'm going to do with my life"? It kind of hit me around the age of 19, when I was in a girl group and I was having my first taste of the industry and getting a feel for what it's like being an artist. Even though I was in a girl group I had two other artists beside me, it was like a new experience for me. We went through few years of it, and we got to travel, we got to tour, we got to record abroad aside from just here in London and the UK, so we got to experience a lot. It was difficult, but a lot of it I enjoyed because I learned so much, and I don't think I could do anything else but music to be fair. Yeah this me, this is my forte. So are you still in that girl group? No, that ended a few years back. We're all solo artists now, we're all working on our own individual sounds and individual styles. Who in the world, dead or alive, would you most like to collaborate with? Good question. I don't know, there are so many great artists that have passed, but I think alive I'd definitely like to work with someone like Pharrell actually. I love his sound, and I think that he's someone who's broken through so many different genres and so many different sounds. I say that I've got an R&B voice and I sing R&B music, I don't wanna limit myself to an R&B artist, that's always gonna be my sound, but I love all music. I listen to everything, my taste for music is quite eclectic, I listen to everything. So what did you think of 'Happy'? Everyone loves that song! Don't that song just make you feel good? It's just like the best song [laughs]. Everyone loves it, the kids love it, the grannies love it, everyone loves it! Could you describe to me your current state of mind, in five words or less? Focused, creative, crazy, enjoyment and ready. Ready for what? Just for anything that comes my way, bring it on. Where do you see yourself in three years? I'd like to see a lot more music and a bigger platform for myself. I feel like even though I've done music in the past, I feel like I'm starting over again as a solo artist, so hopefully I'll build up a fan base, get my music out there and have people on the same page as me. I don't wanna see myself stopping at any time soon, so three years on from now I hope I am still going and people are still rocking with me. Well to be honest having just heard your set and how incredible your voice is, I thinks it's pretty likely! Ah thanks! 7 39 Issue 72 / 2015 HIPHOP / RNB guestlist.net Singer, songwriter and performer Troy Hudson fuses hip hop, R&B, soul, and pop, giving her a sound reminiscent of the 90's.
