48 Issue 72 / 2015 TECHNOLOGY guestlist.net The fuTure is here – self-lacing nikes are on Their way! The self-lacing trainers from Back To The Future II are in production In the classic Back To The Future II, Doc Brown takes Marty McFly and his girlfriend Jennifer from the eighties to the future in his flying DeLorean. The future they travel to is 2015. We're IN the future of Back To The Future II. Take a moment to let that sink in. Sadly, our brightest minds haven't quite cracked the hoverboards or auto-drying clothes that Robert Zemeckis predicted we'd all be using, but the good people at Nike are making those sick self-lacing trainers a reality. Nike is putting the Nike MAG into production and they've even patented the technology. Nike innovation chief Tinker Hatfield hasn't confirmed any release dates or prices for the kicks, but they are hoping to drop October 21, 2015 – the day that Marty and Doc arrived in the future. Engineers have also stated that the trainers could have practical benefits for those with mobility problems, so they're not just a novelty item for film fans. A 2011 limited release of the Nike MAG, which had LED lights but no power laces, raised $6 million for the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research, so there's certainly an appetite for these shoes. And we're firmly on the bandwagon. We also sincerely hope that some genius is hard at work on a flux capacitor because time- travelling DeLoreans would be real handy. The unique selling point of Hinge is the idea that you meet people through your mutual friends. Once you have signed up through Facebook, Hinge pairs you with a set of friends-of-friends every day at noon. The attraction of meeting people this way, real people through your real friends, is that you can be pretty sure that you won't be matched with a random person - 'no randos,' as the website says. With an interface that is easily as slick as Tinder, and an already strong user base in the States, Hinge looks set to take the UK by storm. hinge launches in london Meet new people and have fun in a big way.
