Agencies cooperating on water control in the Cataraqui watershed will be meeting this week in anticipation of communi- cation and cooperation during the spring runoff. Parks Canada, the Min- istry of Natural Resources and Fortis Power and the Cataraqui Region Conser- vation Authority (CRCA) share information for the management of water lev- els which flow through the watersheds under the watch of the CRCA. "Hopefully we won't have any of the same issues we had last year," said CRCA general man- ager Steve Knechtel. Flooding occurred throughout the Gananoque watershed which included problems in Delta, Lynd- hurst Singleton Lake and all the way south to Coun- ty Rd 32 at the Gananoque River. The Township has been attempting to com- plete its five-year update of their OP which was adopted by council and approved by the province in 2002. The province was not supportive of provisions which would permit fur- ther development includ- ing the increase of per- missible severances to five and development on private lanes. Development on pri- vate lanes is limited to a plan of subdivision or a vacant land condomini- um. While those issues were of no surprise to township planner Lind- say Mills the added pro- vision of a 120 meter set- back for water develop- ment was a shocker. The strategy was pre- sented by EORN at a meeting of provincial min- isters during the 2015 OGRA/ROMA Combined Conference in Toronto. The annual conference is hosted jointly by the Ontario Good Roads Asso- ciation (OGRA) and the Rural Ontario Municipal Association (ROMA). EORN was first created by the Eastern Ontario Wardens' Caucus (EOWC) to build a $170-million rural broadband network, which was completed last fall with the support of the federal, provincial and municipal governments and the investment of pri- vate sector partners. The province made the grant announcement early Wednesday morning. It was among 78 projects approved across the province under the Communities Infrastructure Fund. The village applied in December. No further details were available at press time.
