Jorge De los Santos TV MASS FOR THE HOMEBOUND Creed, seminarians, Union Station Let's say you were organizing a group of people to gather at Union Station to study "Introduction to Christianity" ( by Car- dinal Joseph Raztinger/ Benedict XVI) with a couple of Denver semi- narians, what would you call the group? How about Book Club With Sem- inarians? Well, March 25 is the first meeting of Book Club With Seminar- ians, which will meet at 7:15pm at Denver's Union Station. The group will meet through May 13. For more information, con- tact Nicholas.Larkin@ archden.org. Given that the group is bookended by two Marian feasts—the Annunciation (March 25) and Our Lady of Fatima (May 13)—we expect great things from the discussion! A hero speaks St. Rose of Lima Cath- olic Academy had the great privilege of wel- coming John Perozzi, a 95-year-old WWII veteran of the U.S. Army and the 82nd Airborne Division 505 E Com- pany. He visited with the kindergarten and middle school students to talk about heroism and free- dom. The students were mesmerized by his great love for country, and also by his great belief in the beauty of true freedom and the duty to do what is right. Perozzi is a war hero with three purple hearts. He fought at Normandy Operation Market Garden and the Battle of the Bulge. He recently traveled back to Normandy and his D -Day invasion site, which is featured in Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North's Frontlines documentary "A Hero Returns". PHOTO PROVIDED Not for the faint of heart OK, here's something you have got to do this Holy Week. St. John Vianney Theological Seminary has an open invitation for the early risers among us (or for those needing a last-minute Lenten sacrifice) to join them for a Tenebrae Service on Holy Thursday (April 2), Good Friday (April 3) and Holy Saturday (April 4). The hour-long service begins at 5:30a.m. Yes, you read that correctly. That may seem early to many, but the seminar- ians assure us that this early hour of Holy Week prayer is well attended. During the service the O¤ce of Readings and Morning Prayer from the Liturgy of the Hours are prayed in common. The Tenebrae prayer service focuses on the themes of light and darkness sym- bolic of the death and resurrection of Christ, the Son of God, which we celebrate during Holy Week and Easter.³No experience of the service is required to participate. All are welcome. Co'ee not included. 968 new Catholics There will be 550 Cat- echumens and 418 Candidates coming into the Church this Easter in northern Colorado. That makes for a total of 968 new Catholics in 2015! A catechumen is a non-bap- tized individual seeking to enter the Church, and a candidate is someone who has been baptized, but has never been fully initiated into the Church through the sacrament of confirmation and the reception of Holy Com- munion. PHOTO BY DAN PETTY/ DENVER CATHOLIC Dare to read "Humanae Vitae" Be honest, have you ever really read "Humanae Vitae"? What are you waiting for? ENDOW invites men and women April 25, from 8:30a.m.- 2:30p.m. at the JPII Center for the New Evan- gelization, to explore Pope Paul VI's 1968 encyclical upholding the Church's teaching on the incompatibility of birth control with marriage. Led by Eileen Love and Emily Espinola, the mini-retreat dares you to open the letter that chal- lenges the demands and expectations of the secu- lar world. Learn the good news of what the Church really teaches about mar- riage, lasting love, and the treasure of new life! For more info, contact Eileen. Love@endowgroups.org. The family, a timeless classic If anyone knows what's "in" and what's "out", it has to be Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gab- bana, the founders of the lux clothing line Dolce & Gabbana. So when Gabbana told the Italian Magazine Panorama earlier this month that "the family is not a fad," we think the world should listen. Dolce and Gabbana are both openly gay. In the interview, the two men condemned adoption by gay parents, in-vitro fertilization, and surro- gacy. "We, a gay couple [who broke up in 2005], say no to gay adoptions," they said, according to Catholic News Agency. "Enough chemical chil- dren and wombs for rent. Children should have a mother and a father." Then Dolce added, "You can't have everything in life. It's also beautiful to be deprived of something. Life has a natural course; there are things that cannot be modified. The family is one of them." PHOTO COURTESY OF FLICKR
