The internationally renowned Awakenings is back in Amsterdam this June for its 15th edition! On June 27th and June 28th, the internationally renowned Awakenings festival will take place on Spaarnwoude Houtrak, near Amsterdam. The festival site, open from noon till 11 on both days, will see more than 100 artists performing the best of techno. Last year the Awakenings organisation finally got a chance to extend the festival from one day to a whole weekend, and this year Awakenings returns as a weekender, with a massive line-up and a legendary special effects show. An extra stage has been added for the Sunday, and the Saturday will host a special 15 year anniversary area, where acts already closely involved with Awakenings from the very beginning – Joey Mull, Billy Nasty, The Advent and Cari Lekebusch to name just a few – will celebrate this special edition in style. Longtime friends and collaborators MINUS (Richie Hawtin), ElectricDeluxe (Speedy J), Joris Voorn (& Friends) and Drumcode will all host their own area on the second day of the weekender. Unbelievably, this is just a small glimpse of the impressive Awakenings bill - we can't wait to see what other techno treats they have in store! 7 21 Issue 74 / 2015 FESTIVALS guestlist.net Southport Weekender 52 is coming up May 8th - 10th, here's just a few of many reasons why you should make sure you're there. 1. This is the last ever Southport Weekender. After 28 years of events, with some years holding two weekends due to demand, Southport Weekender 52 will be the last. Although the vibe carries on for at least one more of their festivals, SuncéBeat, in Croatia from 22nd - 29th July. 2. The production Southport Weekender has a reputation for impressive production. Previous years have seen some crazy installations and visuals, and always include the best lights and lots of lasers because, let's face it, everyone loves lasers. 3. The line-up Southport Weekender is going out in style! This year's line-up sees some of our absolute favourites step up, alongside some new school sounds. Just a few highlights include Kerri Chandler B2B with Chez Damier, Masters at Work, Richy Ahmed, Black Coffee, David Rodigan, Romare, DJ EZ and MistaJam. 4. Ground-breaking music It's an event that has born some once in a lifetime sets with everything from the godfathers of DnB Fabio & Grooverider performing a set of vintage boogie, to Derrick Carter swapping his jacking house sounds for early morning disco. This year, being its last, will no doubt have many surprises in store, so expect top class sets from all involved. 5. The chalet parties Just because the music stops doesn't mean the party has to and Southport Weekender has the biggest and best chalet parties around. What started as just carrying on the vibes has now evolved into people bringing their own decks and dropping beats till security have to shut them down. You can catch the vibe from event videos but this is something you HAVE to see for real! 5 reasons why you should hit the southport weekender awakenings is coming for you
