They don't limit themselves to one genre, instead their music covers grime, reggae, ska, soul and funk. The group, "who piss on propaganda and make music for the soul", have just recorded and released their new single 'Funk's The Only Time (I Get Down)', which is getting some serious love. Supa & Da Kryptonites have been touring Scotland since March, and still have shows to play in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Dunfermline. If you're feeling funky, be sure to check them out! GuEStLiSt REcommENdS: SupA & dA KRyptoNitES This up-and-coming outfit are bringing their genre-bending vibes to the airwaves Ok we know Gov't Mule is a southern jam rock band, not a reggae band, but we had to give it to them this month, as they have released the mammoth, reggae-inspired Dub Side Of The Mule. This release is the third in a series of dynamic live archival releases that come as part of the group's 20th anniversary celebrations. The deep chemistry and steely confidence shared by the quartet allow them to tackle any form of music and stamp it their own while remaining true to the spirit and intent of the original. This can of course be heard any time guitarist-singer Warren Haynes, drummer Matt Abts, bassist Jorgen Carlsson and multi-instrumentalist Danny Louis take the stage, but a series of new live archival releases really drives the point home. Dub Side Of The Mule shines a light on Mule's fabled New Year's Eve 2006 Beacon Theatre show in New York City. The show featured three-plus hours of Mule standards and covers, including a 60-minute set of reggae songs with special guest, reggae legend Toots Hibbert, founder of Toots & The Maytals. It also features blues standards long a part of their live repertoire, plus special appearances by Gregg Allman & Friends and John Popper from Blues Traveler. No two Gov't Mule shows are alike, so if you want to be part of a unique and special experience, catch them at the O2 Shepherd's Bush Empire on May 25th. Brothers Stephen Suckarie, Courtney Panton, Jr. and Tahir Panton explosively demonstrate their ability to construct laidback yet powerful reggae hits with album opening track 'Today'. With help from their father Courtney Panton, Sr. on bass - a veteran within the Jamaican and US reggae scene - New Kingston combine the old school techniques of roots reggae together with a new breed of conscious roots dancehall. The video, which opens with "Love & Unity, Keep Community", clearly demonstrates both the band's message and their love for Kingston. 'Today' shows just why New Kingston are generating such buzz in America and making waves across the globe.
