16 ✦ BLUE & GOLD ILLUSTRATED 2015 FOOTBALL PREVIEW UNDER THE DOME This year will mark the first football sea- son since 1916 that Notre Dame will not face an opponent from the Big Ten during the regular season. Even in 1916, the "Big Ten" opponents were Nebraska (which didn't join the confer- ence until 2010) and Michigan State (which joined athletically in 1953). Thus technically, Notre Dame's last Big Ten dry spell began in 1908 after having played Indiana in 1907. From 1909-16, Notre Dame didn't face any of the original Big Ten members (and Michigan was inac- tive from 1907-17). Half of Notre Dame's 10-game schedule in 1968 had five straight Big Ten teams, and even in 1994 there were as many as four. The combination of Notre Dame joining the Atlantic Coast Conference as a partial football member in 2014 (it has six ACC games this year) and the Big Ten expanding from eight to nine conference games have left home-and-home series more difficult to schedule. Starting in 1978, Michigan, Michigan State and Purdue had been mainstays on the Irish slate for the most part. Michigan State returns in 2016-17. Beyond that it's sketchy versus the Spartans, other than a tentative arrangement in 2026-27. In-state rival Purdue will return on Notre Dame's schedule in 2020-21 in a home-and- home deal. After a two-year break, the Boil- ermakers and Irish will resume the series again from 2024-26, with a date and neutral site to be determined for the last of the three. Notre Dame also has scheduled a future home-and-home with Ohio State in 2022 and 2023 and Northwestern appears back on the schedule on Nov. 3, 2018. 2015 Notre Dame Football Packages Sept. 5 Texas Sept. 19 Georgia Tech Sept. 26 UMass Oct. 10 Navy Oct. 17 USC Nov. 14 Wake Forest A Notre Dame trip makes A GREAT GIFT: Birthday, Father's Day, Graduation, Christmas, Retirement All details at diamondtravel.com or call 602-870-9197 DIAMOND TRAVEL 27 years in business 2017 Sept. 16 at Boston College Oct. 7 at North Carolina Oct. 28 vs. North Carolina State Nov. 4 vs. Wake Forest Nov. 11 at Miami 2018 Sept. 22 vs. Syracuse Oct. 13 at Virginia Tech Oct. 20 vs. Pittsburgh Nov. 10 vs. Florida State Nov. 17 at Wake Forest 2019 Sept. 2 at Louisville (Labor Day) Sept. 28 vs. Virginia Oct. 19 at Georgia Tech Nov. 2 vs. Virginia Tech Nov. 9 at Duke Nov. 23 vs. Boston College 2020 at Wake Forest at Pittsburgh vs. Duke vs. Clemson vs. Louisville 2021 Sept. 6 at Florida State (Labor Day) at Virginia Tech vs. North Carolina at Virginia vs. Georgia Tech 2022 at North Carolina at Syracuse vs. Boston College vs. Clemson 2023 at North Carolina State at Duke at Louisville vs. Wake Forest at Clemson vs. Pittsburgh 2024 vs. Miami at Georgia Tech vs. Florida State vs. Virginia 2025 at Miami vs. North Carolina State at Boston College at Pittsburgh vs. Syracuse Notre Dame ACC Schedule Through 2025 In addition to Navy, Southern California and Stanford remaining on Notre Dame football schedules for years to come, here are the scheduled games against Atlantic Coast Conference foes through 2025.
