44 Issue 77 / 2015 HIPHOP / RNB Europe's biggest dance music conference, ADE, which takes place in Amsterdam, has announced that 2015 will see the event include a new element. The busy 4 days between 14th and 18th of October will now also see the launch of a new conference and showcase called ADE Beats. The focus of this new element will be to promote hip-hop, bass and beats music. The introduction of this element comes after the success from Rotterdam Beats, an annual initiative flying the flag for hip-hop. 2015 will give a pilot conference and showcase programme before it will be fully integrated in 2016's event. Amsterdam Dance Event will include a new element this year Lauryn HiLL The female poet of hip-hop, this woman carries an aura of elegance and grace "Sometimes it seems/We'll touch that dream/But things come slow or not at all/And the ones on top, won't make it stop/So convinced that they might fall/Let's love ourselves then we can't fail/To make a better situation/ Tomorrow, our seeds will grow/All we need is dedication" - Everything Is Everything Lauryn Hill's lyrics are her most deadly weapon - they make us face reality but still hope for something better if we just take action. Lauryn expresses her emotions, often about love, heartbreak and empowering women, which makes it easy for listeners to relate to her. Who has not felt mistreated or gone through a rough breakup? But one can't just look past her incredible vocals. There's no moment quite like listening to Lauryn Hill's vocal expertise on the Fugees' 'Killing Me Softly'. She launched her illustrious career with the influential hip-hop trio The Fugees in the early 1990s but has had a successful solo career with hits such as 'Everything Is Everything', 'Doo Wop (That Thing)' and 'Ex-Factor'. Hill's enormous success as part of the The Fugees, followed by her stunning solo album The Miseducation Of Lauryn Hill, made her one of hip-hop's most distinguished figures towards the end of the 20th century. Hill is a fantastic singer, as well as one of the greatest MCs of all time, and the story of her voice is the story of a generation. If you put on a Lauryn Hill song at a bar filled with people in their thirties, it would only take a second until people would start nodding their heads, busting out dance moves and feeling nostalgic. The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill could make you turn up with your best friend, make you feel powerful and independent but at the same time make you cry. Rumour has it that Hill was unsure if people would like her album as she had established herself as a rapper but had incorporated singing. But boy are we happy that she went into that direction! If you are blessed with such an amazing voice and can rap with such power and rawness it would be a shame not combine them. Lauryn Hill is undeniable a pioneer in hip-hop and has by all means the rights to be defined as an icon.
