7 21 Issue 78 / 2015 TECHNOLOGY guestlist.net The besT food apps Tender Tender is basically Tinder for food. Our prayers have been answered. The newly launched app is aimed at 18-30 year olds who want to eat out less and cook more. Basically the whole idea is to get young people excited about making food. And how do you do that? By making it into a game, that's how. Replacing potential dates with potential dinners, Tender operates in the same way Tinder does - you swipe left on recipes you're not really feeling and right on ones that you like. As the brains behind the app have said, "food is about more than just calories, it is art. That's why Tender serves up the most beautiful dishes straight from kitchens around the world for your viewing and cooking pleasure. We understand that most people know what they want to eat when they see it; with Tender's easy swipe-to-save interface, finding your dinner has never been easier." You can save all your right swipes to your 'Cookbook', so you can get your dinner on how you want, when you want. The app also has a filet system so you can make your search for "the one" super simple – you can filter by type, like drinks, dessert, vegetarian or vegan or by ingredients like chicken, pork, beef or seafood. Regular Evernote is pretty much great for anything that you need to remember, and now there's an Evernote that's basically a one-stop shop for all things food. And it's just as slickly designed and easy to use as its big brother. You can explore thousands of recipes pulled from the best food sites and then save them all in one place with the 'My Cookbook' feature. You can discover restaurants by location or cuisine wherever you are and create lists of ones to visit. The strongest feature though has to be 'My Meals', a place where you can collect and share all your food moments – you can capture your food memories by logging your meals with location info, notes and photos, so every great meal is just a few taps away. Food; we need it, we love it but for some of us it can be a minefield, especially when it comes to actually cooking something yourself completely from scratch. Luckily there are many, many apps for that. We've picked out four that are sure to turn you into a kitchen wizard Sticking to a diet or healthy eating plan can be a hard slog but Fooducate is the app that's got your back. With Fooducate you can scan products before you tuck in as well as browsing the app's own database to make sure you find the healthiest option available. The recipes featured in the app also come with complete nutritional info. The app also lets you track your calories and water intake so you can see your progress. By becoming part of the Fooducate community you can connect with other users and share stories, and the Fooducate staff also post a daily tip, keeping you motivated on your fitness journey. KiTchen sTories Kitchen Stories is a damn near complete kitchen app – you get recipe videos, how-to guides, step-by-step photos, shopping list feature, timer, measurement converter, in fact the only thing it doesn't do is actually make the food for you. The thing that makes this app stand out amongst others on the market is the high quality of the content; all the photos and videos are professionally produced, and the recipes are developed by top chefs. Kitchen Stories also offers a vast range of recipes, from simple dishes to multi-course menus, so whether you're a complete novice or bit of whizz, the app has something for you. evernoTe food fooducaTe
