The romantic drama directed by Todd Haynes is based on the novel The Price of Salt
Carol has become one of the most
anticpated films of the year after it
received a rapturous response, including
a standing ovation, during the Cannes
Film Festival international press
screening and premiere.
Based on Patricia Highsmith's novel,
the film stars Cate Blanchett, Rooney
Mara, Sarah Paulson and Kyle Chandler,
and is set in 1952 in New York City. It
the story of a young female clerk and
her relationship with an older, married
woman.
As an immediate connection sparks
between them, the innocence of
their first encounter dims and their
relationship deepens. It`s not the first of
Haynes' movies to get recognition; Far
From Heaven and I'm Not There both
received Academy Award nominations.
The first trailer has been already released
and it gives an outstanding impression.
The film will receive its UK premiere at
this year's London Film Festival before its
general release on November 27th. After
success at Cannes, this is definitely one
to watch come awards season.
