7 17 Issue 80 / 2015 TECHNOLOGY guestlist.net The besT London apps Tubemoji Another emoji-related app leading the list this month, however did we live without them. This one is what we never knew we needed until now – an app that brings you tube updates in emojis. Combining our undying love for emojis with the necessity of checking the tube status, Tubemoji is the essential (okay, that might be stretching the definition of the word) commute app. Like other tube apps, you are presented with the classic list of lines but instead of displaying their current status in words, you get it in emojis. So if everything's running as it should, you get the heart eyes face. If there's a part closure, you get the anxious face. And if there's a planned closure or delays, you get the face of complete and utter despair. Of course, you may need slightly more details than that, which you can easily access by clicking on the relevant line. And that's your lot. Fast, simple and fun, Tubemoji makes your commute that little bit more bearable. Currently Tubemoji is only available for iPhone and iPad, so Android users, you're gonna have to sit tight on this one. London is well known for its street art and Street Art London is the authoritative app on the subject. The up-to-date map function means you can easily see the location of hundreds of pieces, as well as filter by artist, to see where your favourite works are scattered, and the GPS tracker will help you get to them. The app is more than just maps though – each of the artists has a biography, and with all the images laid out, it'll help you get familiar with each artist and their style. Street Art London also provide you with news updates, so you'll stay on top of the scene. And yes, it tells you where all the Banksy's are. There are actually a ton of apps relating to our fair city so narrowing down our selection to the four best wasn't easy but we gave it a bash anyway. Whether you're in town on a flying visit or you're lucky enough to live here, it's worth checking them out. Some are more useful than others London is a bloody expensive city and there's so much going on all the time that it can be hard work to find cool things to do on a budget. Enter Frugl. This app curates all the local deals, events and sales happening across nightlife, theatre, food and music for £10 or less, complete with all the event info you need. Not only can you discover tons of great deals, and book/ buy them easily, you can shortlist deals and events if you don't want to use them straight away. You can also share details with your friends and plan your nights out by booking things in advance and add them to your calendar. With Frugl you can enjoy all London has to offer and still make your rent. CiTymapper So Tubemoji is super fun but CityMapper may actually be the most essential app for navigating your way around London town. You can plan your journeys via all public transport methods, foot, bike and car, and it's got a Crossrail option all ready to go even though the thing's not finished yet. You get tube times and bus times in the same place, you get cost estimations, you get journey times, you get weather alerts, you get the amount of calories you would burn by walking, you can integrate it with Uber or Hailo to book a taxi, you can set frequent locations with the 'Get Me Home'/'Get Me To Work' functions. You can even get directions in a slingshot option. Citymapper is everything. sTreeT arT London FrugL
