Guestlist Recommends exit RecoRds 46 Issue 80 / 2015 DNB guestlist.net ciA RecoRds pResents The CIA crew are gonna smash Lightbox all night dBridge's imprint, known for pushing the boundaries is on fire this month First popping up in 2003, dBridge used Exit as a way to release his music that some thought was too 'out' there. It's now the leading source for UK electronica music that follows no rules or trends. It's responsible for a number of huge releases including Dub Phizix & Skeptical's 'Marka' and Mark System's debut album, Final Approach. This October the imprint is on full throttle with a killer EP from Alix Perez already out, and another album project on the way from The Binary Collective (made up of dBridge, Kid Drama, Consequence & Joe Seven). The new album project was written entirely on hardware and from the clips available on SoundCloud it sounds pretty special. It's their first London show in over 10 years, and they return with a line up that's as big as the wait. Taking over Lightbox on October 23rd, the label bosses Total Science will perform an extended 2-hour set showcasing the very best of the label. Ulterior Motive will also be performing for two hours bringing their hard-edged style to the party. And after dropping his massive EP on the imprint earlier in October, Calibre has also been billed, and that promises to be special! Across the night up on mic duties are K-Eye, Fox and SP:MC. Album of the month simpleR times - bReAk Mashing the old skool with the new skool The two samplers have been very successful, but finally its time for Break's third studio album to drop. Simpler Times is a body of work that reaches out to all the sprawling corners of drum & bass with a long hard look at the past. Across the 12 tracks expect the brilliant vocals from Kyo, Celetine, Mad Hed City and the legendary Singing Fats, and collabs with DLR and Xtrah. It's not just a collection of club tracks, though many would do well on the floor. The tracks included make for some easy listening. Break's production is in a class of its own. Wedding soulful pauses with the kind of drops to give anyone a nosebleed is a combination this producer has perfected over the years and he has used this to full effect across the 12 tracks. Break has looked deep into the soul of drum & bass and has produced trip that stops everywhere from Spartan tech-steppy kicks and delicate liquid blends, all seasoned with a healthy measure of jungle. The production value on the album is impeccable, and each and every track has been perfectly rounded off. You'll be driven crazy by the reggae jungle slammer 'Free Your Mind', rounded off with MC Singing Fats, or gritting your teeth and clenching your fists to the heavy hitting 'Regulate' with Xtrah, all whilst losing yourself in the trip hoppy 'Nevaeh' completed by Kyo's poignant vocals. Simpler Times reminisces on the past, but gives the jungle vibe a completely modern touch.
