52 REGGAE / DANCE HALL guestlist.net Issue 80 / 2015 Rompa's Reggae Shack and Green Light Festival have joined forces to bring Rodigan's Ram Jam to Melkweg, one of the most iconic venues in the Dutch capital, on October 23rd. This marks the first time Ram Jam has touched down in Amsterdam, and with the likes of Congo Natty, Mala, Dubkasm, and Daddy Nature on the bill, it's certainly going to be one to remember. Holland is also representing, with local sound King Shiloh bossing room two and local DJs Chaos and L-Dopa in support. news Ram Jam debuts in amsteRdam David Rodigan's legendary event heads to Holland this month Their new record X is a 12 track melting pot of trad-ska, punk rock and rocksteady, packed full with singalongs, rockabilly inspired licks and hammond organ for good measure. Inspired by emotional turmoil, life-changing experiences, wasted nights, troubled times and the reality of everyday life, X is an incredibly honest and genuine collection of tracks. "I was never a poseur, writing about things I never lived, understood or felt passionate about. I will never play the tough and wise guy" says Valerio, vocalist/guitarist. 'Alles Muss Raus (Everything Must Go)' refers to wild nights in the clubs of Kreuzberg; likewise "Harsh Reality" to life in the suburbs, where people have to deal with cultural differences, racism and decay. Having originally formed as a 2tone revival band in 2005 in Southern Italy, the last 10 years have flown by for The Offenders, seeing them constantly touring their brand of "Hooligan Reggae" throughout Mainland Europe, as well as ventures to Russia and China along the way. The Offenders relocated to the vibrant and multicultural hub of Berlin in 2009. The backbone of the band has remained a constant with Valerio (guitar/vocals) and Checco (drums) playing since their conception. Alex (organ/keys) joined in early 2009 whilst the band had bass players guests from all over the world, until permanent and current bassist, Puck, joined. The band's fourth and fifth albums had prolonged success in Amazon's Ska Top 10 Charts and X looks set to follow suit. album of the month More @ guestlist.net/Reggae The Berlin based quartet are back celebrating their 10th anniversary the offendeRs - X Conscious, aware music is making something of a comeback and Protoje is leading the charge of this "Reggae Revival" in Jamaica. Leader of the militant band The Indiggnation, Protoje is a powerful songwriter and inspiring thinker as well as a successful artist – his latest album Ancient Future topped the Billboard Top Reggae Albums chart earlier this year. This month he's bringing his socially aware lyricism and stimulating performance to the capital. Do not miss this chance to see and hear a voice of his generation.
