ice driving school, including a few off-road racers from SCORE International such as; Roger and Elise Norman, and Martin Christensen. Last March, Armin's new teammate, Trophy Truck Champion Steven Eugenio left his home in the Imperial Valley and traveled over 5000 miles to the frozen tundra of Finland to learn about ice driving. While Eugenio has spent years racing motorcycles, cars, and trucks, he has never had any formal instruction. His first time driving with an instructor was on the frozen lakes of Finland. Schwarz likes to teach driving on the ice because of the low grip. " On the ice, there is an advantage because nothing happens fast. Everything happens slowly. Even if you make a mistake you have a chance to correct it because you have time. The more grip you have, the faster things happen, with bigger consequences to your mistake. The ice gives you longer reaction times." The school features several cars from rear wheel drive Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT86, four wheel drive Subaru WRX STIs and even two Group N, and two R5 Rally cars. To build the courses, the staff simply plows the snow off the frozen lake to expose the ice, and nothing is marked with cones. The courses include a simple circle, a series of 90-degree corners and figure eight turns. This year the course featured a 7.5- mile scale model of the famed Nurburgring Nordschleife track. Schwarz stresses how important steering angle and knowing what your steering angle is to each student.
